Gumbo is a traditional meal for Marcia Cooksey (pictured above) and her family. Marcia cooks the gumbo in large quantities and freezes it to enjoy later with her family for Sunday dinner. For the last fifteen or so years, gumbo has also become the feature dish at the Cooksey Christmas meal.

The Perfect Pot of Gumbo
“The making of gumbo has become a yearly tradition in the Cooksey family,” Marica Cooksey explained proudly. “It began by me asking my motherin- law, Ruth, if I could help her make gumbo so I could learn tricks of the trade.”
