Is There Any Word From The Lord?

“Is there any word from the Lord?” This is a question the prophet Jeremiah was asked by King Zedekiah. The situation was grave and the times were bad. The issues were that the King’s leadership was weak and he was unbelieving. Their borders were in danger as the evil King of Babylon contemplated an attack. Jeremiah the Prophet of God had been in the dungeon for a long time.

All of this, plus King Zedekiah’s fear led him to call for Jeremiah and have him brought before him and there he asked the Prophet of God the haunting question, “Is there any word from the Lord?”

The situation of today sounds a lot like Jeremiah’s day. Our leadership on every level from local to national and everything in between is weak and unbelieving. We look around us and our borders are unsecured. There are evil nations who are trying to find a way to bring our country down.

The value of human life is at an all-time low. There are millions of unborn babies that have been aborted and now we see this has carried over into our society by the bombings and mass shootings we see here in the United States almost on a daily basis.

The morality of our nation is at an all-time low. There are more men and women living together than at any other time in our country, and same-sex marriage is rapidly becoming the norm as more and more states make it legal.

And where is honesty. It seems as if everywhere you look someone is lying, government officials, business men, and even school officials. Today it appears that people would rather tell you a lie even when the truth would suit them better.

So, with all of this we find our world in a state of fear and confusion. It is with this back drop that I believe many people are wondering, “Is there any word from the Lord?”

My answer to you is a resounding YES! God is not silent nor does He intend to be silent. So, what is the word we can expect from the Lord? Well, I believe we can see three great truths that God is speaking to the people today.

One is God is given a word of ASSURANCE. God is still on the throne and He is still in control. The Bible assures us that he has a plan (Jeremiah 29:11) one of good and not one of harm, a plan that will prosper.

Two, God is giving us a word of WARNING. No doubt that God has given us a free-will. Man can choose to do anything he wants to do. But beware, God has also said that every choice man makes there are consequences. The things that are anti-God and are against him there will be a judgment. Please be reminded that the Bible says “that the wages of sin is death.”

The third word is one of SALVATION. No matter how far a person gets away from God he still has provided salvation for him. The truth is that salvation is in the person of Jesus Christ. Probably the most memorized and quoted verse is John 3:16, “For God so loved the world (that’s you and me) that He gave His one and only Son, (that is Jesus) that whosoever believes in Him (that is me and it can be you) shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Is there a word for the Lord? Yes, there is, but you have to listen for it, accept it, and put your trust in it.
