The LaSalle Tigers traveled to Merryville this past Friday night to take on the Merryville Panthers and brought home a 34-6 victory. The win saw the Tigers remain undefeated in this early season with a record of 3-0.
LaSalle and Merryville were locked in a tight defensive battle in the first quarter. Merryville’s defense would hold the Tigers on a fourth down, but the Tiger defense would cause a fumble that would be recovered by Sean Derr to give the Tigers a first down heading into the second quarter.
In this second quarter the Tigers would score twice as Kendryk Morrow would run the ball into the endzone from a yard out and then on the next Tigers’ possession would find Sean Derr for a 60-yard catch and touchdown.
Merryville would also get on the board before the halftime break with an 8-yard run of their own but LaSalle would take a 14-6 lead into the halftime break.
LaSalle would take the opening kickoff and keep the ball for most of the quarter with a heavy dose of Tanner Gagne up the gut. Tanner would score once but chew up the clock with 150 yards on the ground.
As Tanner would be forced out with an injury, Justin Valentine would come in and pick up the slack. Justin would gain 40 yards on the ground all while chewing up the clock.
In the fourth quarter things started getting chippy as Merryville received several personal fouls and unsportsmanlike penalties. LaSalle remained composed and just finished the game. It was a tough fought victory for the Tigers as they picked up the third win in as many games. The Tigers are off to a fantastic start this season with a 3-0 record.
The Tigers will be at home this week hosting the Lakeview Gators. The Gators are under new head coach Andy Boone who is known for his unorthodox style of offense and special teams play. It will be a fun game to watch so let’s fill the stands to cheer on these guys that have worked so hard to make this school and community proud.
If you cannot make it to the game, make sure to catch the broadcast on Sandlot Sports Network as Jason Peppers brings you all the play by play.
Hope to see you at the games.
