Fall Fifth Quarter Events

The final Fifth Quarter event will be following the JHS home game on October 27. All students, grades 6-12, are invited!

High school students will be at Temple Baptist Church and junior high students will be at First Baptist Church, Jena. There will be snacks, games and giveaways at each event.

Multi-Family Reunion

The annual Girlinghouse, Gallinghouse, Bass and Ford reunion, held each year on the last Saturday in October, will be held this year on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the Woodmen Hall, Hwy. 84 East in Jena, from 9 a.m. until.

Fried catfish and chicken strips will be provided for the noon meal. Please bring your favorite side dish or dessert and your own drinks.

Any and all descendants of these families are welcome and encouraged to come and enjoy the visit, food and fellowship. Bring any old pictures, tales and stories you would like to share.

Trunk or Treat at Nolley Church

Nolley Memorial Methodist Church will host a Trunk or Treat event on Sunday, October 29, 2023 from 4 to 6 p.m. Hot dogs will be served so come hungry!

The church is located at 2239 Highway 84 East in Jena.

Pritchard Family Reunion

The Pritchard family reunion will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Pritchard Baptist Church. Come early and visit! Lunch will be at 12:00. Please bring your favorite potluck dish.

1st Annual Bulb and Plant Swap

The Busy Bee Home and Garden Club, along with the LaSalle Parish Library, will host the first annual bulb and plant swap.

This event will be held on Monday, November 6, 2023 from noon to 2 p.m. Refreshments will be served and door prizes will be given.

Fall is the best time to thin out your bulb flowering plants. Not only can you bring bulbs, but feel free to bring seeds or any kind of plants you would like to share. This is a great time to swap out some of your old plants for new ones.

Come on your lunch break – you may find something new, or just stop by and visit!

The kids will be out of school on this day, so feel free to bring them along! Gardening is an educational, healthy and fun activity for children. They are able to develop new skills and learn about science and nature from growing their own plants.

Christmas Parade Registration

The Jena Christmas Parade, with the theme “A Louisiana Christmas” will take place Friday, December 8. The deadline to register to participate is Monday, Dec. 4. Forms are available at LaSalle Printing and Office Supplies located at 1110 Pine Street in Jena or email Mickey Cockerham at micklpso@yahoo.com to obtain a form. Foster Homes Needed

Methodist Foster Care serves children who have been through extensive trauma and likely have high behavioral/emotional needs. There is a great need for therapeutic foster homes in the LaSalle Parish area.

Drug Take-Back Day

The LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring a Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, October 28, 2023, where citizens can dispose of their unused medications.

The drop-off location is outside the dispatch area of the LPSO, located downstairs in the rear of the Courthouse. A white drop box is the designated drop-off container.

Citizens may drop off their unused drugs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This day is held to make the community aware that there is a safe and secure location to properly dispose of unused medicines.

Windham – Stapleton Reunion

The Windham – Stapleton Family Reunion will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Nolley Memorial Methodist Church Hall.

Lunch will be served at 12:30pm. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish and drinks.

We would love to see photos, old and new, of your family! Feel free to bring any photos/photo albums that you may have.

Common Ground Service

The LaSalle Ministerial Alliance will host the Common Ground Community Worship Service on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at 6 p.m. at the Wild Horse Ministries Pavilion, Appleby Road, Trout, LA.

Since 2018, LaSalle churches have met annually for united worship and prayer. The goal of these services is to unite our churches across denominations in the love of Christ, as an example to the next generation.

The event is led my multiple pastors and church leaders, each meeting consists of worship and prayer with no main speaker. All are invited to attend.

Concordia Electric Board Meeting

Concordia’s next board meeting is Thursday, November 9, 2023 at 5 p.m.

Fall Canning Class by LSU Ag

The LSU AgCenter will host a Fall Canning Class on Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 12, noon in the Extension Meeting Room at the LaSalle Parish Courthouse. Cost to attend $15.

This will be a hands-on interactive workshop with everyone working in groups. Participants will enjoy a lesson about proper canning methods, which foods are good to can in the fall time- such as pepper jelly and learn the boiling water canning method.

Class is limited to 20 adult participants. Everyone will take home a jar of pepper jelly made in the class.

Tullos Drive-Thru Trunk or Treat

The Drive-Thru Trunk or Treat event in Tullos will be Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m.

The route will begin at the Tullos water tower, will travel south down Main Street (Hwy 125) and end at the Tullos Fire Department.

We invite all to come and join in the fun and see all the characters down Main Street giving out candy!

Haunted Halloween Hall Event

The LaSalle Parish Museum will host a special attraction event this year with the theme “Haunted Halloween Hall.” The event will take place on Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Come by and visit to see special decor and receive treats! We look forward to seeing you!

The LaSalle Parish Museum is located at 1606 Front Street, in the Goodpine Community.

Adult & Teen Challenge at Crossroads

Crossroads Baptist Church invites you to come experience Louisiana Adult and Teen Challenge as they present the power of a transformed life through song, drama and testimonies on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at 10 a.m.

Following the program, lunch will be provided in the fellowship hall. Crossroads Baptist Church is located at Highway 84 East in Winnfield. We look forward to seeing you there!

Medicare Education Class at LFMC

LaSalle Family Medicine Clinic will host their yearly Medicare class in the Clinic Classroom (room L-100) on November 2 at 10 a.m. Mrs. Vicki Dufrene, LA Senior Health Insurance Information Program Director will teach the class, lasting approximately 90 minutes.

If anyone is interested in sitting and talking with Mrs. Dufrene for a one-on-one session of 15-20 minutes, please contact Daphne R. Keene at 318-992-9192 or email Daphne at dkeene@lgh-jena.org.

The one-on-one sessions will be scheduled throughout the remainder of the day until all spots are full. Who should attend: Medicare Beneficiaries, Family Members, Caregivers, Advocates, Professionals.

Wild Horse Ministries

While observing these lessons, you can watch during the first steps of training a horse that has never been saddled while he relates the horse training with God based on trust, faith, obedience and love.
