God’s Paws Rummage Sale
God’s Paws Rescue and Shelter is having a rummage sale on Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the community vendor area near Stones of Remembrance, located at 11655 Hwy 84 W, Jena, LA.
All proceeds will go towards our “fix-it furries” spay and neuter adoption project, vetting and food for our animals.
We will also have a few of our adoptable animals there!
L & A Christmas Banquet

The WoodmenLife annual Christmas Party will be Thursday, December 7 at 6 p.m. at the #306 Woodmen Lodge. Woodmen members are encouraged to attend.
Healthy Holidays 4-H Class
‘Tis the season for a new culinary class that will bring joy and education! At the “Around the World” Culinary Class, participants will learn about food safety and improve their culinary skills through active demonstrations led by LSU Extension Agents, Madison Willis and Jennifer Duhon. In addition, there will be nutrition education components regarding the recipe makeups.
This culinary class will focus on healthy holiday recipes from around the world. There will be a total of 3 recipes: a snack, a main course, and a dessert. Students will have the opportunity to bring these holiday recipes to life through group teamwork efforts.
This workshop will be held on Monday, December 18 from 9:00 a.m.-Noon. This workshop is offered to 4-H Members-ages 9-12.
A $25 registration fee will cover the cost of educational materials, and food for the 3 recipes that will be prepared in the class; and participants will take home a new spiral bound copy of the recipe book used in the class.

Elderly Care Relief
If you are caring for an elderly resident and need someone to relieve you of the care a few hours a week, call the LaSalle Council on Aging at 992-4708 between 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. LaSalle Council on Aging is an equal opportunity provider.
Little Free Food Pantry in Jena
The Little Free Food Pantry in Jena is located beside The Jena Times on Third Street in front of the town pavilion. The pantry is open to anyone in need and also for citizens to add items to keep the pantry stocked.
4-H Seed of the Month Club
LaSalle Parish 4-H is starting a Seed of the Month Club and accepting the first 50 members who would like to participate.
Each month, members will receive a packet of seeds or planting material with instructions on planting, watering, growing and harvesting. Project activity guides will also accompany the seeds that include recipes, and a wide variety of gardening education.

The Jena Christmas Parade, with the theme “A Louisiana Christmas” will take place Friday, December 8. The deadline to register to participate is Monday, Dec. 4. Enter a float, car, truck, golf cart, etc.!

Family Christmas Event
The Women of Purpose Ministry will host “A Family Christmas” event on Saturday, December 9 at the Ward 10 Ballpark.
There will be fun for the entire family – party jumpers, arts & crafts stations, food trucks, nativity scene, walk through winter wonderland, stroll down Candy Cane Lane, outdoor movie, s’mores and hot chocolate stations and a fireworks show.

LaSalle General Flu Vaccine Clinic
LaSalle General Hospital will be giving flu vaccines to adults of all ages at the LaSalle Council on Aging, Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. No appointment is necessary, walk-ins are welcome.
Have your Medicare Card/Insurance Card and Identification with you. Most commercial insurances cover the cost of the flu vaccine; private pay customers also welcome at a cost of $60.

Methodist Foster Care serves children who have been through extensive trauma and likely have high behavioral/emotional needs. There is a great need for therapeutic foster homes in the LaSalle Parish area.

Victim Advocate Program
Victims of crime can receive help with safety planning, guidance through the criminal justice system and access to certain resources to gain strength after victimization.
Services include emotional support, lethality assessment, prevention of abuse, and referrals to services. Assistance in filing Civil Temporary Restraining Orders or Crime Victim’s Reparations notification of court dates and accompanying the victim to interviews and court proceedings are also available.

A retired teachers meeting will be held on Thursday, November 30 at 9:30 a.m. at the LaSalle Parish Library. Sue R. Sandifer, LRTA President District 7, will be the guest speaker. All retired teachers are encouraged to attend.
Pancakes with Santa
Amp’d Youth presents Pancakes with Santa. Also featuring Mrs. Claus and the Grinch Saturday, December 2, 2023. Fourty-five minute sessions at 8 a.m., 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. at Dream Land Venue (284 Browntown Road, Jena).
Cost is $10 per entry and you must purchase a ticket. Tickets can be purchased at the LaSalle Parish Library – Jena Branch. All proceeds will go to missionaries for vehicles, sound equipment and to build water wells.
4-H Shooting Sports Camp
Ready to hone your outdoor skills? Current 4-H Shooting Sports members 9-13 years old can attend the 4-H Shooting Sports Camp at Camp Grant Walker on December 8-10, 2023.
Registration will occur through the 4H Online system. Campers will select and participate in one of several different disciplines. (Archery, Shotgun, or .22 Rifle or Air Rifle/Air Pistol/ BB.)Camp includes two nights lodging, five meals, snacks, drinks, targets, and t-shirt. Shooters provide their own ammo/arrows / bows and other protective equipment.
Registration fee is $120 per youth. Parents may also attend. Must be overnight chaperoned trained and pay registration.
Registration and Payment Deadline is November 20. Payment options include online, check, or money order sent to state office. Level 1 and Level 2 instructors will provide instruction and training for youth to hone their skills.

Jena Giant Booster Club
The Jena Giants Booster Club will hold their meetings at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the JHS athletic field house, located at 9089 Mack Fowler Drive in Jena.
Honor Guard Needs Members
The LaSalle Parish Honor Guard is seeking new members. The Honor Guard provides military honor funerals and burials for all veterans, along with presenting programs in schools, churches and other venues as well as programs during Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
