Election Day Death Shocks Community
Brent Farley

Election Day Death Shocks Community

For the second time in three weeks, LaSalle Parish was shocked Saturday morning, November 18, upon learning of the death of a LaSalle Parish Police Juror.

District 9 Juror Brent Farley, who had battled ALS for several years, succumbed at his residence in Nebo.

Farley, 61, is survived by his wife, Reacey, who noted on a social media post that she lost the love of her life Saturday.

“He was the best husband, daddy, pa and friend anyone could ever ask for,” she wrote. “He has fought a long, hard battle with ALS, but ALS did not win, our Lord and Savior won the battle, Brent won the battle!”

Farley had served as the District 9 Juror since first winning the seat in 2015. He won reelection in 2019 with nearly 70% of the vote.

On Election Day, he was in a runoff with challenger Curt Ainsworth. Once the Louisiana Secretary of State was notified of Farley’s death Saturday morning, the state declared Curt Ainsworth as the winner of the race pursuant to R.S. 18:512B, which list the regulations and election procedures on the death or withdrawal of one or more candidates.

Although votes were cast in District 9 on Saturday, none of the votes were tallied since the state had already declared Ainsworth as elected. This is the reason the District 9 race was not included with any of the election results listed Saturday night on the state’s election website.

Most of his life, Farley worked for Hunt Petroleum Corporation/ XTO Energy as an oilfield mechanic.

He is remembered as a man who selflessly gave of his time cooking for others and caring for them, especially in times of need. So many LaSalle Parish residents were beneficiaries to his generosity.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his two sons, Ryan and Zayde Farley and four grandchildren, Wesson Farley, Milah Kate Norris, Camille Grant and Harper Grant.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 21, at Nebo Baptist Church with Dick Zeagler, Rev. Mark Breland and Rev. Carl Gulde officiating, all under the direction of Kenner & Stevens Funeral Home of Jena.
