The months of September and October were busy in 28th Judicial District Court, in and for the Parish of LaSalle, with arraignments held, prison terms being meted out, others fined, numerous pleas taken, and other proceedings taking place.
The Honorable J. Christopher Peters, District Judge, presided at the sessions. Also at their regular duties were District Attorney J. Reed Walters and assistants, Deputy Sheriff/Bailiff Tommy Barton, Deputy Clerk of Court Reba McClure and Court Reporter/Administrator Amy Stapleton.
September 22
Willie C. Purvis, III was present in court on a motion to revoke or increase bond on felony charges of second degree battery, possession of firearm by convicted felon, aggravated assault with a firearm and simple criminal damage to property greater than $1,000 but less than $5,000 and misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated first offense and two counts of resisting an officer. After arguments were heard, the Court ruled that his bond was to be increased to the amount of $910,000.00.
Christi M. Simmons failed to appear for a final pre-trial hearing on charges of possession of CDS II methamphetamine and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Her non-appearance was noted for the record and trial was set for September 25, 2023.
October 9
Yvonne L. Betancourt pled not guilty to charges of driving under suspension, contempt of court and possession of drug paraphernalia. Trial was set for February 7, 2024. The defendant was referred to the Indigent Defender’s Board for evaluation for appointment of counsel.
Lori Brewer failed to appear for arraignment on a felony charge of possession of CDS II hydrocodone. Her non-appearance was noted for the record.
Zachary C. Brewer pled not guilty to a felony charge of aggravated flight from an officer. A final pre-trial hearing was set for March 15, 2024.
John Frederick Brown failed to appear for arraignment on a misdemeanor charge of driving under suspension. The Court ordered a bench warrant be issued and bon on the warrant set at $1,000.00. Bond on the underlying charge was set at $1,000.00.
Kathy Ann Brown pled not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of criminal trespassing. Trial was set for February 7, 2024.
Robert Durham pled not guilty to misdemeanor charges of domestic abuse battery and violation of protective order. Trial was set for February 7, 2024.
Justin Waide Evans pled not guilty to felony charges of possession of CDS II methamphetamine, aggravated flight from an officer and obstruction of justice and a misdemeanor charge of simple cruelty to animals. Trial on the misdemeanor charge was set for February 7, 2024 and a final pre-trial hearing on the felony charges was set for March 15, 2024. The defendant was referred to the Indigent Defender’s Board for evaluation for appointment of counsel.
Brandy M. Eznack was present in court for arraignment on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. On a motion by the State, the case was dismissed.
Steven E. Germany pled not guilty to 10 felony counts of sexual battery. A final pre-trial hearing was set for March 15, 2024.
Alvin R. Giddings pled not guilty to misdemeanor charges of resisting by flight and resisting an officer by providing false information and felony charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and illegal carry weapon while in possession of CDS. Trial on the misdemeanor charge was set for February 7, 2024 and a final pre-trial hearing on the felony charges was set for March 15, 2024. The defendant was referred to the Indigent Defender’s Board for evaluation for appointment of counsel.
Tyler E. Grant pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. The Court ordered him to pay a fine of $500.00 plus all costs of court.
Dalton W. Hailey pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of open container. The Court ordered him to pay a fine of $230.00 plus all costs of court.
Jimmy D. Hall, Jr. pled guilty to a felony charge of possession of CDS II methamphetamine. Sentencing was set for October 11, 2023.
Ken M. Hatten pled not guilty to felony charges of obstruction of justice and possession of CDS II methamphetamine. A final pre-trial hearing was set for March 15, 2024.
Kaylee Hebert pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of open container. The Court ordered her to pay a fine of $230.00 plus all costs of court.
Brant M. Hinton pled not guilty to misdemeanor charges of simple battery of the infirm and resisting an officer and a felony charge of cruelty to juveniles. Trial on the misdemeanor charges was set for February 7, 2024 and a final pre-trial hearing on the felony charge was set for March 15, 2024. The defendant was referred to the Indigent Defender’s Board for evaluation for appointment of counsel.
Tobbie L. Jackson, Jr. failed to appear for arraignment on a felony charge of carnal knowledge of a juvenile. The Court ordered a bench warrant be issued and bond on the warrant was set at $100,000.00.
Shasta Jean Kirkham pled not guilty to a felony charge of possession of CDS II methamphetamine. A final pre-trial hearing was set for March 15, 2024.
Harrison L. Lee pled not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of simple battery. Trial was set for February 7, 2024. The defendant was referred to the Indigent Defender’s Board for evaluation for appointment of counsel.
James E. McPherson pled not guilty to felony charges of domestic abuse battery by strangulation and domestic abuse battery with child endangerment. A final pre-trial hearing was set for March 15, 2024.
Kameron Meredith pled not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of battery of a police officer and felony charges of theft of a firearm and simple escape. Trial on the misdemeanor charge was set for February 7, 2024 and a final pre-trial hearing on the felony charges was set for March 15, 2024.
Sheridan K. Nelson pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of resisting by flight. The Court sentenced him to serve 15 days in the parish jail. He was given credit for time served on this charge.
Rowdy Austin Randall pled not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia and a felony charge of possession of CDS II methamphetamine. Trial on the misdemeanor charge was set for February 7, 2024 and a final pre-trial hearing on the felony charge was set for March 15, 2024. The defendant was referred to the Indigent Defender’s Board for evaluation for appointment of counsel.
James Devon Sanders failed to appear for arraignment on charges of simple battery on the infirmed and violation of protective order. The Court ordered a bench warrant be issued and bond on the warrant was set at $300,000.00.
Christopher P. Savage pled not guilty to a felony charge of possession of CDS II methamphetamine. A final pre-trial hearing was set for March 15, 2024.
Kimberly Sikes Sharp failed to appear on a misdemeanor charge of driving under suspension. The Court ordered a bench warrant be issued and bond on the warrant was set at $1,000.00. Bond on the underlying charge was set at $1,000.00.
Jewanda Victoria Smith failed to appear in court for arraignment on a misdemeanor charge of driving under suspension. The Court ordered a bench warrant be issued and bond on the warrant was set at $1,000.00. Bond on the underlying charge was set at $1,000.00.
Calvin D. Thomas, Jr. pled not guilty to felony charges of possession of CDS II methamphetamine, possession of CDS IV tramadol and introduction of contraband into a penal institution and a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated first offense. Trial on the misdemeanor charge was set for February 7, 2024 and a final pre-trial hearing was set for March 15, 2024 on the felony charges.
Jeromy N. Thompson pled not guilty to felony charges of aggravated flight from an officer and public intimidation and misdemeanor charges of resisting an officer and obstructing public passages. Trial on the misdemeanor charges was set for February 7, 2024 and a final pre-trial hearing on the felony charges was set for March 15, 2024. The Court ordered the defendant keep his appointment with Dr. John Simoneaux on November 6, 2023 and if he doesn’t keep his appointment, his bond will be revoked and he will return to jail.
Ravonna Rey Wallace pled not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of state burn ban violation and a felony charge of unauthorized entry of dwelling. Trial for the misdemeanor charge was set for February 7, 2024. A final pre-trial hearing on the felony charge was set for March 15, 2024. The defendant was referred to the Indigent Defender’s Board for evaluation for appointment of counsel.
Kelvin L. Walton pled not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of violation of protective order. Trial was set for February 7, 2024.
Randall Wes White, II pled not guilty to a felony charge of possession of CDS IV diazepam. A final pre-trial hearing was set for March 15, 2024. The defendant was referred to the Indigent Defender’s Board for evaluation for appointment of counsel.

Thomas Duncan pled not guilty to charges of careless operation and no seat belt. Trial was set for February 7, 2024.
Miguel Estrada Garcia failed to appear for arraignment on charges of speeding 91/55 and operating vehicle without a driver’s license. The Court ordered a bench warrant be issued and bond on the warrant was set at $1,000.00. Bond on the underlying charge was set at $1,000.00.
Lacy Elaine Martin failed to appear for arraignment on a charge of speeding 86/55. The Court ordered a bench warrant be issued and bond on the warrant was set at $1,000.00. Bond on the underlying charge was set at $500.00.
Virgil Leroy Schlenker failed to appear for arraignment on a charge of speeding 80/55. The Court ordered a bench warrant be issued and bond on the warrant was set at $1,000.00. Bond on the underlying charge was set at $500.00.
October 10
Stacy D. Bird was present in court for sentencing on a felony charge of possession of CDS II methamphetamine. The Court sentenced him to serve two years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections, of which five months were suspended. Upon release from incarceration, he was placed on three years active supervised probation. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,500.00 plus all costs of court. As a special condition of probation, he may pay his fines and costs in equal monthly installments over the first year of his probation. Further, he shall be evaluated by an addictive disorders clinic within 14 days of his release from incarceration and whatever recommendations are made by the clinic will become part of his probation. Regardless of the recommendations made he was ordered to attend a minimum of one NA meeting per week during the pendency of his probation. The Court recommended that he be housed at a facility where he can participate in an addictive disorders program.
Raymond Terel Gardner was present in court for a bond reduction hearing on charges of unauthorized entry of dwelling and domestic abuse battery. A stipulation was made between the State and the Defense and his bond was reduced to $15,000.00.
Jim A. Howard, Jr. was present in court on a motion to quash and dismiss prosecution on a charge of domestic abuse battery. On a motion by the State, the defendant was released from his bond obligation.
James B. Lyle, II was present in court for a probation revocation from a charge of theft having value of more than $1,000.00. The defendant admitted to the allegations and the Court ordered his probation revoked. He was ordered to serve the previously suspended sentence imposed by the Court, with a recommendation he be housed at an institution that provides an addictive disorders treatment program.
James B. Lyle, II was also in court for another probation revocation hearing from a charge of theft having value greater than $1,000.00 but less than $5,000.00. The defendant admitted to the allegations and the Court ordered his probation revoked. He was ordered to serve the previously suspended sentence imposed by the Court.
Valerie L. Parker was present in court for sentencing on a felony charge of driving while intoxicated fifth offense. The Court sentenced her to serve 22 ½ years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections and pay a fine of $5,000.00, plus all costs of court. The Court also recommended she be housed at a facility where she can participate in an addictive disorders program.
Daniel Kenneth Speaks was present in court for a probation revocation hearing from a charge of possession of CDS II methamphetamine. After the defendant admitted the allegations, the Court ordered his probation revoked and he was ordered to serve his previously suspended sentence imposed by the Court, with a recommendation he be housed at an institution that provides an addictive disorders treatment program.
Darius White was present in court for a bond reduction and arraignment on a charge of theft greater than $25,000.00. A stipulation was made between the State and the Defense and bond was reduced to $30,000.00. He also entered a plea of not guilty to the charge and a final pre-trial hearing was set for March 15, 2024.
Hayden Aymond was present in court for trial on a misdemeanor charge of hunt deer in closed season. The State amended the charge to possession of illegal taken deer and the matter was paid outside of court.

He withdrew his former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to the charge of possession of CDS II methamphetamine. The Court sentenced him to serve two years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections, of which one years was suspended. Upon release from incarceration, he was placed on three years active supervised probation. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,000.00 plus all costs of court. As a special condition of probation, he may pay his fines and costs in equal monthly installments over the first year of his probation. Further, he was ordered to enroll and complete a GED program during his first year of probation as an additional condition of probation. He shall also be evaluated by an addictive disorders clinic within 14 days of his release from incarceration and whatever recommendations made by the clinic will become part of his probation. Regardless of the recommendations made, he was ordered to attend a minimum of one NA meeting per week during the pendency of this probation. The charges of disturbing the peace by intoxication and obstructing public passes were dismissed by the State.

All fines and fees were to be paid in full by 3 p.m. that day. He pled guilty under the auspices of Article 894 and he was given credit for any time served on this charge.
Caleb Earl Jenkins was present in court for trial on a charge of driving while intoxicated first offense. He withdrew his former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to the charge. The court sentenced him to serve 15 days in the parish jail, with 48 hours to be served without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence. He is to pay a fine of $750.00, plus all costs of court. Further, he was ordered to attend and complete a driver improvement/substance abuse program and all fines and fees were to be paid in full by 3 p.m. that day. He pled guilty under the auspices of Article 894 and he was given credit for any time served on this charge.

Kyra Deville Boyd was present in court for a

Kineric O. Curry was present in court for a final pre-trial hearing on felony charges of false imprisonment with a dangerous weapon, domestic abuse aggravated assault and domestic abuse battery by strangulation. Trial was set for October 23, 2023.
Christine M. Dragon was present in court for a final pre-trial hearing on a charge of possession of CDS II methamphetamine. She withdrew her former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to an amended charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. The Court sentenced her to serve 50 days in the parish jail, plus pay all costs of court. She was given credit for time served.
Casey Francis was present in court for a final pre-trial hearing on a felony charge of domestic abuse with child endangerment and misdemeanor charges of illegal use of CDS in presence of juvenile and possession of drug paraphernalia. She withdrew her former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to an amended charge of simple battery and possession of drug paraphernalia. On the charge of simple battery, the Court sentenced her to pay a fine of $500.00, plus all costs of court. On the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, the Court sentenced her to pay a fine of $500.00, plus all costs of court. This sentence is to run consecutive to the other sentence. On a motion by the State, the charge of illegal use of CDS in presence of a juvenile was dismissed.
Rachel D. Green failed to appear for a final pre-trial hearing on a charge of possession of CDS oxycodone with intent to distribute. Her non-appearance was noted for the record.
John C. Hagan was present in court for a final pre-trial hearing on charges of domestic abuse battery with serious bodily injury and aggravated assault with a firearm. The victim requested the charges be dropped and on a motion by the State, the case was dismissed.
Roy D. Lee was present in court for a final pre-trial hearing on a felony charge of unauthorized entry of inhabited dwelling. He withdrew his former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty as part of a plea bargain. The Court sentenced him to serve six years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections, of which three years was suspended. Upon release from incarceration, he was placed on two years active supervised probation. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,000.00, plus all costs of court. As a special condition of probation, he may pay his fines and costs in equal monthly installments over the first year of his probation. As an additional special condition of probation, a stay-away order protecting the victim was placed in effect for two years. Further, he was ordered to enroll and complete a GED program during the first year of probation, as an additional condition of probation.
Jennifer Campbell was present in court for a final pre-trial hearing on a felony charge of possession of CDS II methamphetamine and one charge of contempt of court. As part of a plea bargain, she withdrew her former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to one felony count of possession of CDS II methamphetamine. The Court sentenced her to serve two years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections and pay all costs of court. The additional charges of possession of CDS II methamphetamine and contempt of court were dismissed by the State.
Robbie Jean Miller was present in court for a final pre-trial hearing on a felony charge of possession of CDS II methamphetamine. She withdrew her former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to the charge. The Court sentenced her to serve three years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections and pay a fine of $1,500.00, plus all costs of court. This sentence is to run consecutive to any time she is serving on revocation of prior parole.
Marlon O. Tingle was present in court for a final pre-trial hearing on charges of possession of CDS II methamphetamine, flight from an officer and simple kidnapping. As part of a plea bargain, he withdrew his former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to the charges of possession of CDS II methamphetamine and flight from an officer. On the flight from an officer charge, the Court sentenced him to pay a fine of $250.00, plus all costs of court. On the possession of CDS II methamphetamine charge, sentencing was set for December 5, 2023. On a motion by the State, additional charges of flight from an officer, operating vehicle in unsafe condition and simple kidnapping were dismissed.
Brandon Jude Ledet was present in court for a final pre-trial hearing on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and driving while intoxicated first offense. He withdrew his former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to both charges. On the charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, the Court sentenced him to serve two years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections, of which six months were suspended. Upon release from incarceration, he was placed on two years active supervised probation. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,000.00, plus all costs of court. As a special condition of probation, he may pay his fines and costs in equal monthly installments over the first year of his probation. On the charge of driving while intoxicated first offense, the Court ordered him to serve 15 days in the parish jail, with 48 hours of that sentence to be served without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence. He is to pay a fine of $750.00 plus all costs of court. Further, he was ordered to attend and complete a driver improvement/substance abuse program.
Caleb John Wiley was present in court for a pre-trial hearing on a charge of carnal knowledge of a juvenile. He withdrew his former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to the charge. The Court sentenced him to serve five years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections, which was suspended. Upon release from incarceration, he was placed on three years active supervised probation. He was also ordered to pay all costs of court. As a special condition of probation, he may pay his costs in equal monthly installments over the first three months of probation. Further, he shall be evaluated by a mental health clinic within 14 days of his release from incarceration and whatever recommendations are made by the clinic will become part of his probation. He is to register as a sex offender and follow guidelines. Further, he was ordered to enroll and complete a GED program during his first year of probation as an additional condition of probation.
Courtney D. Johnson was present in court for a final pre-trial hearing on charges of resisting an officer with force or violence and disturbing the peace by intoxication. As part of a plea bargain, she withdrew her former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to the sole charge of resisting an officer with force or violence. The Court sentenced her to serve three years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections, of which two years were suspended. Upon release from incarceration, she was placed on three years active supervised probation. She was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,000.00, plus all costs of court. As a special condition of probation, she may pay her fines and costs in equal installments over the first year of her probation. Further, she shall be evaluated by an addictive disorders clinic within 14 days of her release from incarceration and whatever recommendations are made by the clinic will become part of her probation. Regardless of the recommendations made, she was ordered to attend a minimum of one NA meeting per week during the pendency of her probation.
