Husband Charged With Wife’s Murder

Kenny Wayne Smith, Sr., 55, of Olla, was officially charged with second-degree murder in the death of his wife, Lacey Hayman Smith, November 29, according to officials with the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office. Smith had been in jail since his wife’s body was discovered November 21 at 1660 West Avenue in Olla. He was being held on a charge of violation of protective order.

His wife, Lacey Smith, 24, was discovered deceased at the residence Tuesday morning, Nov. 21, and pronounced dead at the scene by the LaSalle Parish Coroner’s Office.

Her body was sent for an autopsy with officials not releasing any information concerning its results.

The Olla Police Department was the first to respond to the scene and contacted the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office to assist in the investigation. Since then, they have been the lead agency in the murder investigation working with the Olla Police Department and other state agencies.

Sheriff’s officials are releasing no further information at this time, including the cause of Lacey Smith’s death or any motive, as the investigation continues.

Smith’s bond was set at $500,000.00 by 28th Judicial District Court Judge Christopher J. Peters on the second-degree murder charge and an additional $20,000.00 on the violation of protective order charge, for a total of $520,000.00. As of press time Monday, he was still in jail without posting bond.

Officials are still asking for anyone that has any information regarding this crime to contact a LPSO detective at (318) 992-2151 or provide any anonymous information by calling (318) 9927300.
