Three Qualify for District 5 Juror

Republican/Democrat Party Committees See Increase

Qualifying for the March 23, 2024 election was held this past week with three men qualifying for the LaSalle Parish Police Jury’s District 5 seat and an historic number of individuals qualifying for parish and state party committees.

With the death of District 5 Juror June Fowler on November, a special election was called for March 23 to fill the unexpired term of Fowler. Fowler was reelected by a large margin during the October 14 primary, less than a month prior to his death.

The three men who qualified last week to fill the unexpired term were Mike Boyd, David Moss and Willie Twiner.

Parish election officials noted that for the first time they can remember, an election will be held in LaSalle Parish for a party committee as the largest number of people qualified in decades, if ever.

For many years, the parish Democrat and Republican party committees and LaSalle Parish representatives on the state committees numbered three or less, but not this year.

When qualifying ended Friday, 14 positions had names attached to them and one will require an election to determine the representative.

For the Louisiana Republican State Central Committee District 32C seat, Kimberly DeLoach and Blake Phillips will face each other March 23, 2024, to determine who will fill the position.

Other committee positions that did not require an election and the persons are considered automatically elected are as follows: LaSalle Parish Republican Parish Election Committee: Kimberly DeLoach (at large), Jake Long (at large), Blake Phillips (at large), Catherine Roberts (at large), Darrel McCartney (Dist. 5) and Jamie Brock (Dist. 6).

LaSalle Parish Democrat Parish Election Committee: Clare Wilson (at large), Ron Carr (at large), Anthony Jackson (at large), Don Wilson (Dist. 5), Bobbie Cornett (Dist. 6) and Cheryl Smith (Dist. 7).

Louisiana Democrat State Central Committee: Cheryl Smith (22nd Dist. A) and Danny Cole (22nd Dist. B).
