Around the World 4-H Culinary Class

LaSalle 4-H members embarked on a culinary experience that took them around the world through different cuisines on December 18, 2023, at the 4-H office in Jena.

The first stop in their travels included a sanitary food preparation lesson involving hand washing and workspace cleanliness. Members then reviewed the first recipe and created Belgium waffles from scratch.

Next up included a stop to India. 4-H’ers sautéed onions and garlic along with curry powder, chicken, and simmered the dish in coconut milk to create their chicken curry served over rice.

For the salad portion of the meal, youth constructed a caprese style salad from Italy with mozzarella and tomatoes.

Students participating in the class included Aiden Scott, Hillary Foreman, Madison Barker, Kaydence Snoddy, Piper Campbell, Avery Cockerham, Haylee Wiggins, Rowan Pierce, Morgan Ewing, Camille Reichardt, Mary Henderson, EmmaRie Lurry, Natalie Forman and Kaylee Snoddy.

For more information on 4-H and other youth development program activities, or if you are interested in serving as a volunteer contact your local Cooperative Extension Service at (318) 992-2205.
