Obituaries

Charles Wascom

Charles E. Wascom, 76, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born May 2, 1947 in Denham Springs, LA to the union of his parents, James and Georgia Wascom.

Charles met his wife-to-be on a blind date when he was 18 years old on October 22, 1965. He later told everyone he had just met his future wife. His romance would be forced to be on hold due to the draft for the Vietnam War. He had just turned 19 years old when he had to report to the Army on August 8, 1966. He served one year overseas and one year at home when he was honorably discharged on August 8, 1968. Not long after being home, he proposed to his bride-to-be and they were married on November 22, 1968, and stayed by each other’s side for 55 years until his death.

Services were held at graveside at 1 p.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024, in the Lone Pine Cemetery, Monterey, LA, with Rev. Whit Bass officiating, under the direction of Magnolia Funeral Home, Alexandria, LA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirely Cox; and sister, Carolyn Boudoin.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 55 years, Karen Wascom; daughter, Sharon Mooney (Gerald); son, Dennis Wascom (Sharon); granddaughter, Kalene Ainsworth (Derek); grandson, Dalton Wascom (Alana); all of Sandy Lake, LA; his nieces and nephews, who they and many others affectionately called him “Unc.”

Pallbearers were Dalton Wascom, Chazz Nelson, Johnny Nelson, Caleb Bass, Will Bass, Drew McCartney and Calan McCartney.

Honorary pallbearers were Lank Bass, Larry Boudoin, John Stamatelos, Windall Wilson, Derwin Ewing, Mike Ewing, Wayne (Pappy) Patten, Elton Lott, Raymond Lott, David Earl Morace and Jimmy Masters.
