Lady Giants Drop Two District Games

The Jena Lady Giants started district play last week and despite hard fought battles, dropped both games they played.

The Lady Giants played at home against Bunkie on Tuesday, January 9. Bunkie came into the game as the favorite to win district this season, while the Lady Giants were looking to pull off the upset and start district play with a win.

Bunkie would use their quickness and defensive pressure to jump out to an 11-4 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. In the 2nd and 3rd quarters, Bunkie would get their offense going as they would outscore the Lady Giants 30-15 in the two quarters to put the game away.

Bunkie would take a 41-19 lead into the 4th quarter and would go on to win 52-30. In the game for the Lady Giants, Triniti Williams had 13 points, Elyssa Brinson had 8 points, Braylie Poole had 4 points, Jewellia Champlin had 2 points, Baylee Burlew had 2 points and Ava Francis had 1 point.

On Friday, January 12, the Lady Giants would play another home game as the Bolton Lady Bears came to town. This game would be a tale of two halves – in the first half the Lady Giants led throughout and took a 14-12 lead into halftime. Triniti Williams led the Lady Giants with 4 first half points.

In the second half, Bolton started getting some shots to fall and came back to outscore the Lady Giants 14-8 in the 3rd quarter to take a 26-22 lead into the final quarter.

In the 4th quarter, Bolton would outscore Jena 15-5 to win 41-27.

In the game for the Lady Giants, Triniti Williams had 7 points, Ava Francis had 5 points, Jewellia Champlin had 4 points, Baylee Burlew had 4 points, Elyssa Brinson had 3 points, Kaylee Kemp had 2 points and Braylie Poole had 2 points. The Lady Giants record is now 7-10 overall and 0-2 in district play. This week, the Lady Giants will have two road games, as they were scheduled to travel to Caldwell on Tuesday and on Friday they are scheduled to travel to Buckeye. Of course, the weather may play a factor on if those games are played.

Remember, you can listen to all district games on FM 102.7 KJNA. Games start at 6:00 pm. If you are not in the listening area then you can tune in on the MIXLR app by searching for KJNAFM or go online at www. kjnafmjena.mixlr.com.
