Lady Giants Get First District Win

The Jena Lady Giants only played one game this past week as their schedule had some changes due to the weather. The Lady Giants were scheduled to go to Caldwell on Tuesday but the cold weather and the frozen roads would force the teams to postpone to a later date.

So, that would leave the Lady Giants with just one game this past week as they traveled to Buckeye to take on the Lady Panthers on Friday night. The Lady Giants would have a 10-7 lead at the end of the 1st quarter and would take a 2013 lead into halftime.

Sophomore Triniti Williams would lead all scorers with 10 first half points. In the 3rd quarter, the Lady Giants would get 7 points from sophomore guard Lily Lacroix who would come off the bench to start the second half and make 2 three-point shots in the quarter. The Lady Giants would outscore Buckeye 14-9 in the quarter to take a 34-22 lead into the 4th quarter.

In the final quarter, Buckeye would not give up as they would erase the 12-point deficit to tie the game at 40. The Lady Giants would remain calm though as Triniti Williams would make the go-ahead basket with 14 seconds left and Kaylee Kemp would make 3 of 4 free throws in the final quarter as the Lady Giants would go on to win 45-42.

In the game, Triniti Williams had 22 points, Lily Lacroix had 7 points, Ava Francis had 5 points, Kaylee Kemp had 4 points, Elyssa Brinson had 2 points, Jewellia Champlin had 2 points, Baylee Burlew had 2 points and Noel Kimbrough had 1 point.

With the win, the Lady Giants improve to 8-10 overall and 1-2 in district play.

This week, the Lady Giants were to play Marksville at home on Monday and on Friday will travel to Bunkie.
