SPC Eddie Raistlin Brooks received the Army Commendation Medal for placing first in the 139th Regional Support Group’s Best Warrior Competition last month in Pineville.
Ten soldiers from the 139th RSG, including SPC Brooks, competed at the Louisiana Training Center Pineville over a period of four days, January 25-28.
During the Best Warrior Competition, these ten citizen-soldiers were tested on several areas, such as physical fitness, land navigation, first aid, Army history, weapons systems and basic warrior tasks.
This four-day competition is conducted each year to determine which soldier and non-commissioned officer will represent the 139th in the state’s Best Warrior Competition which will be held in April of this year. The winner of that competition will be named Soldier of the Year.
SPC Brooks was honored with the medal during a special awards ceremony at the conclusion of the competition. Brooks currently serves with the U.S. Army National Guard’s 415th Military Intelligence Company.
Eddie Raistlin Brooks grew up in Jena and is the son of Jena residents, Brandon and Shannon Brooks, and the grandson of Eddie and Bobby Brooks and James and Judy Ogden. He has served in the military since his enlistment in 2019, and currently resides in Baton Rouge, LA.
