Thirteen was an unlucky number in LaSalle Parish last week especially for workers of the Louisiana Forestry Commission. A total of 13 forest fires was reported in the parish by Clarence Waggoner, parish fire ranger. Ranger Waggoner stated that due to high wind and dry weather conditions prevailing during that time the fires were extremely hard to control. One of the fires, pushed along by the high winds, jumped U.S. Highway 165 north of Olla from the east side of the highway to the west side. Smoke from this particular fire caused four automobile collisions due to motorists being blinded by the smoke.
