Lady Giants Get Huge District Win

The Jena Lady Giants played four more games this past week, winning three of the four including their first District 2-3A win.

On Monday, March 11, the Lady Giants traveled to Claiborne Christian and picked up a 15-5 win.

On Thursday, March 14, the Lady Giants traveled to Bunkie for another District 2-3A showdown with the Bunkie Lady Panthers. The game would be a pitcher’s duel as both teams would struggle to score. However, the Lady Giants would get on the board first in the top of the 3rd inning as Cydnee Parker would come in to score on a Haylee Dangerfield single to centerfield. The Lady Giants would add a run in the top of the 5th inning but Bunkie would answer with a couple of runs in the bottom of the 5th to tie it at two.

In the top of the 7th inning Callie Decker would hit a triple to left center field. Hallie Paul would reach base on a walk. Decker and Paul would then come in to score on a double to left field by Haylee Dangerfield.

The Lady Giants would go on to win 4-2. Kiette Cooper would pick up the win for the Lady Giants as she gave up two runs on six hits with 13 strikeouts and only two walks. Haylee Dangerfield would finish two for four in the game with a double and three RBIs. Kiette Cooper would lead the Lady Giants with three hits in the game as she went three for four.

This past weekend, the Lady Giants participated in the Menard tournament. The Lady Giants would pick up a big 6-2 win over St. Frederick in their first game, however, they would lose their second game 10-6 to Menard. The Lady Giants are now 11-8 on the season and have another busy schedule this weekend. They will participate in the Calvary Baptist Tournament in Shreveport which will have some great teams from the Shreveport area in it. On Friday the Lady Giants will play at 3:30 p.m. against host Calvary Baptist. Also on Friday at 7:30 p.m., the Lady Giants are scheduled to play Evangel. On Saturday at 10:30 a.m., the Lady Giants are scheduled to play Stanley.

Their next home game will be Tuesday, March 26, as they are scheduled to host Quitman.
