Lady Tigers Take Down #1 Team

The LaSalle Lady Tiger softball team traveled to Logansport to take down the #1 softball team in Division IV Non-Select 7-3 on Tuesday, March 19. This win notches the second win in a seven-day period over a top team in Division IV softball. Just seven days earlier the Lady Tigers knocked off #2 Montgomery at home 10-0 making a district championship possible.

Kenzie Nino drove in four runs on two hits to lead LaSalle past Logansport 7-3 on Tuesday. Nino tripled in the sixth inning, scoring two runs, and tripled in the seventh inning, scoring two.

Rheese Martin struck out ten batters on the day. Martin gave up four hits and three runs over seven innings while walking three.

Logansport got on the board in the first inning after Emmarie Atkins hit a solo home run to center field. Logansport was able to add another run in the third on a LaSalle error scoring one run.

LaSalle was able to tie the game at two thanks to a triple by Kenzie Nino and an error. LaSalle was able to jump into the lead for good in the top of the seventh when Allie Murphrey singled, scoring one run, Kenzie Nino tripled, scoring two runs and Mattie Parham doubled, scoring one run.

Avery Creech led things off in the circle for Logansport. The righty surrendered eight hits and seven runs (three earned) over seven innings, striking out eight and walking two.

Allie Murphrey set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading LaSalle with three hits in four at-bats. Lana Childress collected two hits for La-Salle in four at-bats. LaSalle defense turned one double play in this game.

In their only home game last week, the Lady Tigers faced the Mangham Dragons on Thursday, March 22, and secured a 12-0 win.

LaSalle will have one District 3-1A game left as they will travel on April 9th to take on Northwood-Lena. The Lady Tigers are sitting at 10-9 overall and 2-1 in district play. This record is enough to rank the Lady Tigers as #4 in Division IV Non-Select softball in the state.

Let’s continue to pack the stands to cheer on these girls as they are pushing their way back to Sulphur and the Fastpitch 56 Tournament. Hope to see you at the games.
