Senior Day Victory for Jena Giants

The Jena Giants had a busy week this past week as they played four more district games. The Giants played a double header on Tuesday against the Bolton Bears, the weakest team i n District 2-3A. The Giants would dominate the Bears as they would pick up two 17-0 victories.

On Thursday, March 28, the Giants would travel to Bunkie to take on the Panthers. The Giants would come into the game with a 2-2 district record and were looking to get above .500 in district play. Both teams would score a run in the first inning. The Giants would answer with two runs in the second and six runs in the third to take a 9-1 lead into the bottom of the third.

In the bottom half of the third inning, Bunkie would score three runs to make it 9-4. The Giants would seem to put the game away with three runs in the fourth and a run in the sixth to make it 13-4 going into the bottom of the sixth. Bunkie would make a comeback though as they would score five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it 13-9. Bunkie would have the bases loaded and would bring the potential tying run to the plate but the Giants would get out of the jam. Jena would answer with five runs in the seventh and would go on to win 18-9.

Calex Campbell would pick up the win pitching 5.1 innings giving up seven runs with four earned on nine hits and finishing with nine strikeouts. Jacob Belcher, Jacob Pentecost, Brayden Oakes, Collin Jensen and Cayden Mursch would all finish with two hits each in the contest. Jacob Belcher would lead the Giants with six RBIs. Brayden Oakes and Collin Jensen both had three RBIs each in the game.

On Saturday, March 30, the Giants would have senior day as they would honor their seniors. The Giants would honor their four seniors Hayden Williams, Jacob Pentecost, Paxton Willis and Zerrick Jones before the game. The Giants would then jump out to a six-run lead in the third inning and would hold on to win 9-8.
