Ikie Henderson

Ikie Mae Hailey Henderson, 93, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024, in the arms of her beloved only child Raye.

A graveside service was held at 11 a.m., Sunday, April 7, 2024, in the Harrisonburg Cemetery, with Tommy Mayo and Rev. Lionel Hatten officiating, under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home, Jena, LA.

Pallbearers were Scott Maxfield, BJ Book, Lauren May Calk, Alexandra Hailey Maxfield, Gage Dossett and Drew Bass.

She was born June 11, 1930 in Walters, LA and was raised in Whitehall, LA.

Ms. Ikie was a graduate of Jena High School and the Alexandria Business College. She was a 75-year resident of Harrisonburg. In 1950, she married the love of her life, JC Henderson. They were married for 45 years. Her professional life included serving as the Catahoula Parish Deputy Clerk of Court for 37 years; she also worked in several capacities with the Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Ikie was a lifetime devoted Pentecostal, having departed this life as a member of Rosin Creek Pentecostal Church. Among her services to her churches, she played piano and acted as church secretary. With her sisters, Ms. Ikie was a founder of the Catahoula-LaSalle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She served in every office of that chapter and regularly attended the state conventions.

This lively, remarkable and energetic lady had wide-ranging interests and service projects, including travelling, attending many Bluegrass festivals across a number of states, crafting ceramics, visiting friends and family, reading and painting. She loved visiting her nieces and their families in Arkansas and Florida. She also volunteered to serve on the Board for Council on Aging and the Homemakers Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Ike E. Hailey and Bennie Mae Johnson Hailey; her siblings, Beth H. May, Earl Hailey Sr., Shine H. Walker, Cora Belle Hailey and Georgia H. Jones; special grands, David L. Jones, Sr., Jennifer W. Groll, Jeff Walker, George Wesley Hailey, Aaron Hailey and Katri Billiot.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Raye Henderson; sister, Teen H. Davidson; and a host of nieces, nephews, grands and great-grands, the latter of whom considered her a grandmother.
