Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker bragged that the state of Illinois made $417 million in taxes from legal cannabis sales last year. Yes. Yes, it is still illegal by federal law so all sales have to be cash. You can also buy cannabis in edible gummies. Does anyone see a problem with that? If the tax collected was $417 million, I wonder how much money was spent on legal weed in Illinois last year. I am not even able to compute that much. Citizens from other states also go to Illinois and spend lots of money on legal cannabis and illegal cannabis. The problem is there is no tax on the illegal stuff. Why not make some tax revenue on something considered a sin tax? They are easier to pass legislatively.
