LaSalle Tigers Fall in First Round

The LaSalle Tigers #21 fell 14-11 to Logansport #12 in the first round of the Division IV Non-Select playoffs last Friday, April 19, in Logansport, despite out-hitting them 13 to 9. Canaan Stowe led the Tigers with three hits.

Despite the loss, LaSalle did collect 13 hits in the high scoring affair. Unfortunately, Logansport had 9 hits on the way to victory.

LaSalle jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Canaan Stowe singled, scoring one run. Cutler Ganey drew a walk, scoring one run. An error scored another run.

Wyatt King hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run was scored, Brady Tatum drew a walk, scoring one run and Kale Murphrey singled, scoring two runs.

Logansport tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a single by Nathan Wheless, a walk by Stevie Holloway, walk by Levi Forrest and a triple by Keaton Cason.

LaSalle then took the lead in the top of the third inning. Canaan Stowe singled, scoring two runs, to give the Tigers a 9-7 lead.

Logansport then took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning after Nathan Wheless singled, the Tigers committed an error, Hunter Martin hit into a fielder’s choice and Keaton Cason grounded out each scoring one run.

Cody Regester earned the win for Logansport. The starter gave up five hits and seven runs (three earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking three. Noah Parham took the loss for La-Salle. The righty went one inning, surrendering four runs (two earned) on two hits, striking out none and walking one. Brady Tatum started for the Tigers on the mound. He gave up seven hits and 10 runs (seven earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking six.

LaSalle collected 13 hits in the loss. Canaan Stowe drove the middle of the lineup, leading LaSalle with three RBI’s. The cleanup batter went 3-for-4 on the day. Tanner Gagne, Cooper Stowe, Brady Tatum and Kale Murphrey each collected multiple hits for La-Salle. The Tigers stole four bases in this contest.

The Tigers have had a great season and have nothing to hang their heads about. This team battled in every game they played this season. They were a relatively young team and will continue to improve in the offseason. These guys will continue to strive for excellence and bring LaSalle back to Sulphur again. That will wrap things up for baseball this school year.

Don’t forget to tell these guys how proud you are of their hard work this season. Until football season, I hope to see you at the games.
