John Wilson, district commercial manager for the Central Louisiana Telephone Company has announced that the new telephone cable construction in the Tullos area is near completion. The new cable is to be used to eliminate party line service in favor of private lines. He emphasized that the new cable facilities would mean improved telephone service, there would be one drawback: telephone numbers connected to the new cable would have to be changed. “We regret the inconvenience to those Tullos subscribers whose numbers will have to be change,” said Wilson. “However, the improvement in service will far outweigh any problems that the number change will cause them.” The total cost of the new cable facilities will be $55,000.

Members of the Jena National Guard Unit, the 18th Transportation Company, named about 70 huge tractor-trailer rigs last Saturday morning as the troops pulled out of Jena for two weeks of summer camp. Captain David Poston, commander of the company, said the 170 men from the Jena unit will be involved in moving equipment at several points during the training session. Their first stop after leaving Jena was in Mobile, Alabama where equipment sent to Panama for work there, was picked up and returned to Louisiana guard units. Other hauling assignments included Gulfport, Mississippi, Hammond and Monroe, Louisiana. During the summer training, the company will headquarter at camp Beauregard near Alexandria. One year ago, the local company boosted about 87 men and today, over 170 men are assigned to the Jena Unit.
