KIDS’ COMMUNITY EVENTS:

Camp Nolley VBS

Nolley Memorial Methodist Church will have “Camp Nolley” VBS on Friday, June 21, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Pre-K to 6th grade students are invited!

VBS at Aimoch Baptist

Aimoch Baptist Church will have VBS on Saturday, June 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with commencement to follow. All students ages 4 years to 6th grade are invited to attend!

VBS at Temple Baptist

Temple Baptist Church will have VBS from Sunday, June 23 through Wednesday, June 26, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. nightly. This year’s theme is Mystery Island. All kindergarten to 5th grade students are invited!

Free 3D Design Youth Camps

The Strand Village Project #thrive will offer a free art and technology camp this summer in Jena and Urania. The #thrive Tech Architecture: 3D Design Camp for 6-12th graders will be held June 17-21 and 24-26 in both Jena and Urania. This is a great opportunity for youth to dive into the study of building styles and design using iPad Pros. The Jena camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the LEDD Office (1850B Second Street) in Jena. The Urania camp will be held from 2:30-5:30 p.m. at the Urania Recreation Hall. The #thrive staff for both camps will be instructor Kim Aldrich and site coach Cheryl Otwell. Enrollment is free. Space is limited. Register now at www.agreaterlasalle.com.

Free Family Events in Jena

Could your family use a tune-up? You’re invited to join Families FIRST Academy in July to learn skills that help grow warm and loving relationships. Both adults and children will learn and practice these skills that help strengthen communication, set boundaries and develop trust that strengthens the environment to help youth thrive and remain drug free. Ages 7 and up are eligible to attend with their family members/guardians. Two events with different times and dates are available. Families will choose which event to attend. The first will be held on Tuesday, July 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with Becky McLaurin as the family coach. The second will be held on Saturday, July 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Jenny M. Parker as the family coach. Both events will be held at the LEDD Office (1850a Second Street) in downtown Jena. A light meal will be provided. The first five families to register will receive a $15 gift certificate per person to a local restaurant after attending the event. Two or more adults per family are preferred to attend along with youth. Registration is required and space is limited. To register, visit www.agreaterlasalle.com

VBS at Olla First Baptist

Olla First Baptist Church will have VBS from Monday, July 8 through Friday, July 12, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. nightly. This year’s theme is Wild Live! Contact 318-495-5506 for more information.

VBS at Olla Methodist Church

Olla Methodist Church will have VBS from Sunday, July 14 through Wednesday, July 17, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. nightly. This year’s theme is Camp Fireflight. Contact 318-413-0864 for more information.

Free Youth Theater Camp

The Strand Village Project #thrive will offer a second free youth theater camp this summer in Jena. The #thrive Arts Intermediate Theater Camp for 5-12th graders will be held July 8-12 and 15-19 from 2-5 p.m. at the Jena High School Auditorium. This camp is a great opportunity for youth to go beyond the basics of theater as well as assist with and perform in The Little Mermaid Jr. musical. The performance will be on Friday, July 19 at 6 p.m. at the JHS Auditorium. The #thrive staff will be JHS Drama instructor Tracy Joy and site coach Holly Grant. Enrollment is free. Space is limited. VBS at Shady Grove UPC

Shady Grove UPC will have VBS from Monday, July 22 through Friday, July 26. This year’s theme is Scuba – Diving Into Friendship with God. 4th to 12th grade students are invited!

VBS at Ebenezer BC

Ebenezer Baptist Church will have VBS from Friday, June 21 through Sunday, June 23, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. nightly. This year’s theme is Outback Rock. Pre-K to 6th grade students are invited!

VBS at Jena Church of Christ

Jena Church of Christ will have VBS from Monday, June 24 through Wednesday, June 26, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. nightly. This year’s theme is Flight School. Pre-K to 6th grade students are invited!

VBS at Sandy Lake UPC

Sandy Lake United Pentecostal Church will have VBS from Monday, June 24 through Thursday, June 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. nightly. This year’s theme is Camp Fireflight.

VBS at Pritchard BC

Pritchard Baptist Church will have VBS from Sunday, July 7 through Friday, July 12. This year’s theme is Breaker Rock Beach. Ages 0 to 12th grade students are invited!

4-H Culinary Class

The Around the World Culinary Class will be held on July 16, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the LaSalle Courthouse-Room 23 (4-H Meeting Room-downstairs). Join us for creating tasty European recipes. Participants will learn knife skills, food safety, nutrition, plus hands-on cooking and a take home item.This class is open to 4-H members ages 9-12. Registration and a $25 fee is due by July 7, 2024. Class is limited to 20 participants. For more information, call 992-2205. The LA Cooperative Extension Service provides equal opportunities in programs and employment.

Art & Drone Workshop

An Art & Drone Workshop will be held Thursday, July 18, 2024 from 9 a.m. to noon at the LaSalle Courthouse-Room 23 (4-H Meeting Room-downstairs). This workshop is open to all youth entering 5th grade – 12 grade. You do not have to be a 4-H member to attend. Participants will create a faux stainless glass art and will have the opportunity to fly a drone through obstacle courses. Registration and a $10 fee is due in the 4-H Office by July 7, 2024.
