Jerry Childers

Jerry Dean Childers Sr., 76, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023, in Frisco, TX.

Jerry Dean Childers Sr., 76, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023, in Frisco, TX.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Kilpatrick’s Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Shreveport, LA, with Father Karl Daigle and Pastor Glen Roark officiating.

He was born January 12, 1947, in Shreveport, LA to proud parents, Berla and Ruby Lee Childers.

He grew up in Waskom, Texas where he was a star football player known as “Tank”. Jerry served his country with honor during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Air Force, where he worked as a crew chief on the AC-47 Gunship. Upon his return, he was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, where he attended Alaska State University. His time in Alaska, flying over the majestic landscapes, held a special place in his heart.

Throughout his life, Jerry enjoyed a successful career in the oil and gas industry, working as an Account Purchasing Executive. However, his true passions lay in flying and boating. He spent countless hours building model airplanes and boats with his son, Jay. In retirement, he could often be found flying his ultralight plane or navigating the waters of Caddo Lake, his happy place.

Those who knew Jerry understood that he had a heart of gold. He was known for his kindness, loyalty and unwavering love for his family and friends. His gentle spirit and warm smile touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jerry’s life was marked by love, dedication and service. Jerry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Rest in peace, Jerry aka Pappy. Your legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire us all.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Berla Sanford (Sandy) Childers.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years, Linda Roark Childers “Dixie”; his son, Jay Childers (Kristi); his grandsons, River Childers and Carson Childers; and many extended family members, including in-laws, nieces, nephews and their children.
