LaSalle Parish School Superintendent Jon Garrett announced recently that parish schools will open for a Monday on October 28, to make up the day missed last month due to weather.
The 2024-2025 LaSalle Parish School System Calendar was created to continue the implementation of a four-day school week, Tuesday through Friday, with schools not in session for any Monday during the year.
It has set 150 student days with 427 minutes of instructional time each day and in order to meet the state and federal requirements, those days must be held. Any day missed for weather or other events not deemed a state or federal emergency/disaster must be made up.
“We have designated Monday, October 28, as the official make-up day for our school system,” he said. “This make-up day came about from the school closure on September 11 due to the potential we had for bad weather (that day).”
The announcement was made weeks in advance in order to allow teachers and parents the opportunity to plan for the unusual Monday school day.
