The end of August and the month of September was busy in the 28th Judicial District Court, in and for the Parish of LaSalle, with arraignments held, prison terms being meted out, others fined, numerous pleas taken and other proceedings taking place.
The Honorable J. Christopher Peters, District Judge, presided at the sessions. Also at their regular duties were District Attorney J. Reed Walters and assistants, Deputy Sheriff/Bailiff Tommy Barton, Deputy Clerk of Court Reba McClure and Court Reporter/Administrator Amy Stapleton.
August 23
William Harvey Blasingame III was present in court for probation revocation from an original felony charge of possession of CDS II methamphetamine with intent to distribute. He admitted the allegations. The Court ordered his probation revoked and he was ordered to serve his previously suspended sentence with a recommendation that he be housed at an institution that provides an addictive disorders treatment program. This sentence is to run concurrent with the sentence of a previous charge.
Donald L. Chevallier was present in court for a final pre-trial hearing on two counts of possession of firearm by convicted felon. A final pre-trial hearing was set for September 20, 2024 and trial was set for September 23, 2024.
Brandon R. Clark was present in court for a final pre-trial hearing on charges of possession of CDS II methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Trial was set for August 26, 2024.
John D. Cloud Jr. was present in court for a final pre-trial hearing on charges of possession of CDS II methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of contraband in penal institution. Trial was set for August 26, 2024.
Trevon Harrison failed to appear in court for a final pre-trial hearing on a charge of attempted second-degree murder. The Court ordered a bench warrant be issued and bond on the warrant was set at $2,500,000.00.
Carla Horsfall withdrew her former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to one count of illegal carry of weapon while in possession of CDS and one count of distribution of methamphetamine. On the distribution of methamphetamine charge, the Court ordered her to serve seven years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections and pay all costs of court. The Court recommended she be housed at a facility where she can participate in an addictive disorders treatment program. On the charge of illegal carrying of weapon while in possession of CDS, the Court ordered her to serve five years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections and pay all costs of court. This sentence is to run consecutive to the sentence imposed on the first charge. On a motion of the State, five additional counts of illegal carry weapon while in possession of CDS and one count of distribution of methamphetamine were all dismissed.
Katherine D. Guin withdrew her former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to a charge of possession of CDS II amphetamine. The Court sentenced her to serve two years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections and pay all costs of court. The Court recommended she be housed at a facility where she can participate in an addictive disorders program. On a motion of the State, additional charges of six counts of illegal carry of weapon while in possession of CDS and one count of possession of methamphetamine were all dismissed.
Ralph Paul Lirette withdrew his former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to a charge of possession of CDS II cocaine. The Court sentenced him to serve two years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections and pay a fine of $1,000.00, plus all costs of court. On a motion of the State, an additional charge of possession of CDS II methamphetamine was dismissed. He was given credit for time served on this charge.
Ken M. Hatten withdrew his former plea of not guilty and entered a blind plea of guilty to a charge of possession of CDS II methamphetamine. The Court ordered a presentence investigation be performed and due September 20, 2024. Sentencing was set for October 1, 2024. On a motion of the State, an additional charge of obstruction of justice was dismissed.
Stephen D. Doughty withdrew his former plea of not guilty and entered a blind plea of guilty to a charge of possession of CDS II methamphetamine. The Court ordered a pre-sentence investigation be performed and due September 20, 2024. Sentencing was set for October 1, 2024. On a motion of the State, an additional charge of possession of methamphetamine was dismissed.
William H. Blasingame withdrew his former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to charges of possession of CDS II methamphetamine and manufacturing of CDS I psilocybin. On the possession charge, the Court sentenced him to serve five years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections and pay all costs of Court. On the manufacturing charge, the Court sentenced him to serve 10 years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections and pay all costs of court. The first sentence is to run consecutive to the second sentence and those sentences are to run concurrent with a previous sentence. On a motion of the State, an additional charge of conspiracy to manufacturing CDS I psilocybin was dismissed. The State also agreed to not file an habitual bill based upon this charge.
Michael G. Owens withdrew his former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to a charge of possession of firearm by convicted felon. The Court sentenced him to serve seven years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,000.00 and all costs of court. On a motion of the State, an additional charge of possession of firearm by convicted felon was dismissed.
Sonney Ray Smith withdrew his former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to a charge of possession of firearm by person convicted of certain felonies. The Court sentenced him to serve 10 years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,000.00 plus all costs of court. On a motion of the State, two additional charges of possession of firearm by person convicted of certain felonies was dismissed. This sentence is to run consecutive to whatever time he is serving now.
Kaylie Shanel Cooper withdrew her former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to a charge of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling. The Court sentenced her to serve four years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections and she is to pay all costs of court. On a motion of the State, an additional charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle was dismissed.
Oscar C. Pennington withdrew his former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to a charge of theft having a value of greater than $5,000.00 but less than $25,000.00. The Court sentenced him to serve seven years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections with five years being suspended and he was placed on five years of active supervised probation. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,000.00 plus all costs of court. As a special condition of probation, he may pay his fines and costs in equal monthly installments over the first year of his probation and he was given credit for time served on this charge.
Tristen S. Trussell withdrew his former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to an amended charge of attempted introduction of contraband into a penal institution (from introduction of contraband into a penal institution). The Court sentenced him to serve one year at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections, which was suspended and he was placed on one year active supervised probation. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $250.00 plus all costs of court. As a special condition of probation, he may pay his fines and costs in equal monthly installments over the first six months of his probation. On a motion of the State, an additional charge of remaining after forbidden was dismissed.
James G. McLeod failed to appear for a final pre-trial hearing on a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The Court ordered a bench warrant be issued and bond on the warrant was set at $100,000.00.
A minute entry was made regarding Jazmine T. Richardson who failed to appear for a final pre-trial hearing on July 19, 2024. At the time, her non-appearance was noted for the record. On a motion of the State, the Court ordered a bench warrant be issued and bond on the warrant was set at $1,000.00.
Krista Saunders failed to appear for a final pre-trial hearing on 15 counts of unlawful production, manufacturing, distribution of possession of fraudulent documents for identification purposes and conspiracy, possession of CDS II fentanyl, forgery and identity theft. Her non-appearance was noted for the record.
Blaine A. Volentine failed to appear for a final pre-trial hearing on charges of simple burglary, conspiracy to commit simple burglary, criminal damage to property greater than $1,000.00 but less than $50,000.00 and conspiracy to criminal damage to property. The Court ordered a bench warrant be issued and bond on the warrant was set at $4,200,000.00.
Brandon R. Clark withdrew his former plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty to a charge of possession of CDS II methamphetamine. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered to be performed and due September 20, 2024. Sentencing was set for October 1, 2024. On a motion of the State, an additional charge of possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed.
John D. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered to be performed and due September 20, 2024. Sentencing was set for October 1, 2024. He also entered a plea of guilty to an amended charge of possession of drug paraphernalia (from possession of CDS II methamphetamine). On this charge, the Court ordered him to pay a fine of $500.00 plus all costs of court. On a motion of the State, additional charges of possession of contraband in penal institution and obstruction of justice were dismissed. A post-conviction bond was set at $25,000.00.
Summer N. Almaguer pled not guilty to a felony charge of possession of CDS II methamphetamine. A final pre-trial hearing was set for January 24, 2025.
Corey Ryan Bailey pled not guilty to felony charges of domestic abuse aggravated assault and aggravated battery. A final pre-trial hearing was set for January 24, 2025.

Chelsey Britt pled not guilty to felony charges of possession of CDS II methamphetamine, possession of CDS II fentanyl, introduction of contraband into penal facility and conspiracy to commit attempted introduction of contraband into penal facility. David Fredlander pled not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia and he pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of contempt of court. Trial on the possession of drug paraphernalia charge was set for January 8, 2025 and he was referred to the Indigent Defender’s Board for evaluation for appointment of counsel. On the contempt of court charge, the Court sentenced him to serve 10 days in the parish jail and pay all costs of court. He was given credit for time served on this charge.

Tyson T. Wren pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of criminal trespassing. The Court sentenced him to serve 15 days in the parish jail and pay all costs of court. He was given credit for any time served on this charge.
Daylin J. Young pled not guilty to felony charges of distribution of CDS II methamphetamine and criminal conspiracy to distribution CDS II methamphetamine. A final pre-trial hearing was set for January 24, 2025.
Jasmyne Autionna Carlise failed to appear for arraignment on a charge of speeding 85/55. The Court ordered a bench warrant be issued and bond on the warrant was set at $1,000.00. Bond on the underlying charge was set at $500.00.
September 10
Kineric O. Curry was present in court for sentencing as part of the habitual offender bill. On the charge of false imprisonment with a dangerous weapon, the Court’s previously imposed sentence of nine years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections and four years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections on another charge of domestic abuse aggravated assault was vacated and the Court resentenced him pursuant to a habitual offender finding. The new sentence of the Court on the domestic abuse aggravated assault charge was eight years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Correction and he must pay all costs of court. The new sentence of the Court on the false imprisonment with a dangerous weapon charge was 16 years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections and pay all costs of court. These two
sentences are to run consecutive to one another. On a charge of domestic abuse battery, the Court did not vacate the previously imposed sentence and noted that sentence will run concurrent with the other sentences. As a condition of each sentence, a stay-away order protecting the victim was placed in effect for two years after he is released from custody.
Misty F. Doolittle failed to appear on a rule to show cause for failure to pay court fine regarding charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension. Her non-appearance was noted for the record.
Patty Williams Francis was present in court for sentencing on a charge of theft greater than $5,000.00 but less than $25,000.0. The Court sentenced her to serve five years at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections, of which five years were suspended. She was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $7,900.00 plus all costs of court. As a special condition of probation, she may pay her costs in equal monthly installments over the first 30 months of her probation and she is to pay $100.00 per month towards restitution over the entirety of her probation. Upon failure to pay one payment toward restitution, she will be subject to probation revocation. She was given credit for any time served on this charge.
Miguel Angel Garcia-Jimenez was present in court for a waiver of extradition for the State of Pennsylvania. He was advised of his rights concerning extradition and a written waiver of extradition proceedings was read, signed and filed.
Johendri Javier Gonzalez-Rangel was present in court for a waiver of extradition for the State of Tennessee. He was advised of his rights concerning extradition and a written waiver of extradition proceedings was read, signed and filed.
Quinn M. Johnson was present in court for a probation revocation hearing. After testimonies were heard, the Court ordered his probation revoked and he was ordered to serve his previously suspended sentence imposed by the Court.
Stephen G. LaCroix was present in court for sentencing on a charge of aggravated flight from an officer. The Court sentenced him to serve 30 months at hard labor in the custody of the Department of Corrections, of which 12 months were suspended. Upon release from incarceration, he was placed on five years of active supervised probation. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,000.00 plus all costs of court. Further, he was assessed $150.00 for the preparation of the pre-sentence investigation, which was assessed as costs of court. As a special condition of probation, he may pay his fines and costs in equal monthly installments over the first 18 months of his probation. He was given credit for any time served on this charge.
Matthew E. Taunton was present in court for probation revocation. He admitted to the allegations and the Court ruled his probation revoked. The Court ordered him to serve his previously suspended sentence imposed by the Court with a recommendation that he be housed at a facility that provides an addictive disorder’s treatment program.
Jessica Wardlow was present in court on a motion for speedy trial and bond reduction regarding a felony charge of unauthorized entry of inhabited dwelling. On a motion of the State, the charge was dismissed.
Curtis W. Webb was present in court for probation revocation. He admitted to the allegations and the Court ruled his probation revoked. The Court ordered him to serve his previously suspended sentence imposed by the Court with a recommendation that he be housed at a facility that provides an addictive disorder’s treatment program.

On this date, the Fall Grand Jury was selected to serve the 28th Judicial District Court.
The following individuals were drawn at random to serve as the Fall Grand Jury: Alicia Diane Williams, Paula A. Westbrooks, Diamond Simmons, Crystal Lee Nugent, Dewey Malcolm Amyx, Kelly C. Of the twelve, one name was selected to serve as the Fall Grand Jury Foreperson: Kelly C. Stapleton.
