Lady Tigers Open District Play 2-0

The LaSalle Lady Tigers have compiled a 14-3 record thus far with two of these wins being in District 3-1A play. This 14-3 record has the Lady Tigers ranked #2 in Division IV Non-Select power points. The Lady Tigers will have to play #3 Logansport and #5 Montgomery soon to win a district championship. This could quite possibly be the toughest 1A district in the state.

On Thursday, March 13, Allie Murphrey drove in four runs on three hits to lead the Lady Tigers past Mangham 11-2. Murphrey doubled in the fourth inning, scoring two runs, and singled in the fifth inning, scoring two additional runs. The Lady Tigers flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth inning, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead 6-2.

Landry Long opened the game for La-Salle in the circle. Long only gave up one hit and two runs (zero earned) over four innings, striking out 8 and walking 2. Rheese Martin tossed three innings in relief for LaSalle, giving up one hit and one strikeout, walking none. La-Salle accumulated 15 hits in this game.

Kinley Morris and Allie Murphrey were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits. Lana Childress, Klaire Fenoli and Landry Long each collected multiple hits for LaSalle.

On Saturday, March 15, Landry Long struck out 12 batters as the right-hander led the Lady Tigers past Tioga 6-0. Long gave up three hits, zero runs and walked two in seven innings. LaSalle opened the scoring in the second after Lana Childress singled, scoring one run.

A double by Kinley Morris, and an error helped the Lady Tigers extend their lead in the third inning. LaSalle scored one run on a solo home run by Leah Steen. Leanna Womack hit a solo home run in the sixth inning. Leadoff hitter Allie Murphrey led the Lady Tigers with two hits and four at bats. Kinley Morris led LaSalle with two RBI’s. Morris went 1-4 on the day. Landry Long threw an immaculate inning in the second inning, striking out the side on 9 pitches. The Lady Tigers did not commit a single error in the game.

The Lady Tigers will continue this season with more district games coming up this week. Let’s fill the bleachers to cheer on these girls that are working so hard to make this school and community so proud.

Hope to see you at the games.
