EXTRA, EXTRA! #thrive Youth Present Newsies JR.

The cast of the #thrive Arts Theater Youth Camp brought a headline-worthy performance last Friday, July 18 in the Jena High School Auditorium during their presentation of Newsies JR. the musical.

Thirty-four students from sixth to twelfth grades attended the ten-day camp at Jena High School prior to the show’s debut. The camp was taught by JHS Drama Club Director Tracy Joy along with site coaches Holly Grant and Blake Joy and #thrive Arts Intern Sarah Alexander assisting.

When a powerful newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer – played by Brayden Hood – raises the prices of “papes” at the expense of the newsboys, the charismatic Jack Kelly – played by Greyor Harris – rallies the newsies to strike for better conditions. The show also featured Sophie Reaves as Crutchie, Iris Smith as reporter Katherine Plumber, Tanner Boyette as Davey and Raylee Guidry as Les.

The entire Newsies JR. cast sure did “Seize the Day” and bring an inspiring story to the big stage with this successful performance.

This program is a component of The Strand Village Project #thrive and is funded in part by a Substance and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Program Grant from The Rapides Foundation. For more information, contact info@agreaterlasalle.com or visit www.agreaterlasalle.com.

*Newsies JR. was presented through special arrangement with and all authorized materials were supplied by Music Theatre International, New York, NY (212) 541-4684 mtishows.com.
