Tigers Drop Season Opener

In hopes to avenge last year’s loss in the season opener, the LaSalle Tigers traveled to Ferriday last Thursday, September 4, to take on the Delta Charter Storm for the official start of the 2025 football season. The two teams were familiar with one another as both the high school and junior high teams have played one another in tight games the past few years.

The Tigers were on a short turnaround with the Jamboree against Grant on the Saturday prior. Additionally, this Week 1 matchup was moved to a Thursday due to a shortage of officials.

Delta Charter Storm has proved to be a quality program in recent years with a district title and a combined 15-5 record the past two seasons. With DCS having a veteran offensive line and a plethora of upperclassmen skilled position players, this group of young Tigers knew it would be a huge test to open the season.

Despite that circumstance and taking on a quality opponent, the Tigers competed well in the first half. However, the Storm were able to establish their running game and pull away in the second half.

On the opening drive, the Tigers struggled to move the ball. The Storm gained possession and took a quick 8-0 lead. Later in the first quarter, the Tigers caused a turnover and showed some offensive momentum. The Tigers were able to get into the red zone behind a few explosive plays from senior quarterback Tuff Street. The drive was finished off with a rushing touchdown by junior running back Wyatt King. The Tigers converted and tied the game 8-8.

Throughout the remainder of the first half, the Tiger defense battled hard and got to 3rd and 4th downs on several occasions but could not find a way to get off the field. This caused the Tigers to trail 26-8 at the half.

Coming out of the half, the Tigers were able to force another turnover but could not finish any drives offensively. The Tigers ended up falling to the Storm by the final score of 48-8.

Tuff Street would rush for 64 yards on 11 carries and 79 all-purpose yards. Jessey Stowe carried the ball 14 times for 28 yards.

Wyatt King led the way on defense and receiving, racking up 13 tackles and 2 receptions for 15 yards on the night. Tuff Street finished with 6 tackles. Alex Richmond and Brayden Tannehill would both have 4 tackles.

With a full week of preparation and an extra day of rest, the Tigers will look to make some adjustments and bounce back as they take on the Lakeside Warriors in their home opener on Friday, September 17, at 7:00 p.m.

Everyone is encouraged to come out to Tiger Stadium in Olla this Friday and support your LaSalle High School Tigers!
