2nd Annual Walk for Recovery Event Held

2nd Annual Walk for Recovery Event Held

The second annual Walk for Recovery event was held Saturday morning, September 13s in the Jena Town Park where many people and organizations came together to “celebrate roads to recovery”. The event was sponsored by the La-Salle Parish Celebrate Recovery, the local chapter of the Bible-based 12-step recovery program, operated by the LaSalle Ministerial Alliance.

With the month of September designated at National Recovery Month, the Saturday event recognized those who are recovering from many habits and hangups like addiction, depression or anxiety.

The event began with a walk along the Town of Jena’s Vision Trail with some walking in memory of family lost to addiction, others walking to show their support for friends currently battling depression or anxiety and many walking to celebrate their own recovery and sobriety.

“Everyone has something they can recover from – it can be drugs or alcohol, but it can also be anger, the need for control and anxiety,” said one of Celebrate Recovery’s team members Lori Andrews. “This event is about celebrating recovery and the only One who can heal us from everything – Jesus.”

At the conclusion of the walk, a service was held at the park’s amphitheater which featured worship lead by the Sanctuary Family Worship Center’s worship team, testimonies of deliverance from many LaSalle Parish locals and visitors and skits by Celebrate Recovery and Teen Challenge members.

“We want to thank everyone who made this event possible. To the sponsors and vendors and each of you who have come out to participate,” stated Patricia Nealy, CR Team Member and event organizer.

The CR team thanked the following organizations, businesses and individuals: LaSalle Parish Celebrate Recovery, LaSalle Ministerial Alliance, Louisiana Adult & Teen Challenge, Lincoln Nova Vital Recovery, Vet Center, Central LA Human Services District, New Vision and LaSalle General Hospital, Hardtner Medical Center, Millie Mattered Overdose and Addiction Recovery, The Franklin Group, Southern Heritage Bank, Homeland Bank, Paul & Mandy Newman, Blade & Barrel, JJ’s, Mitch’s, Southern Comfort Catering, Crave, Signs & More, Justiss Oil Co., 4G Embroidery & Screen Print, Palmetto Addiction Recovery Center, Tanya Gahn, The Jena Times, the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Sanctuary FWC worship team.
