Big Road Win for Lady Giants

The Jena Lady Giants played three more games this past week and, in the process, picked up three big road wins to improve their record and power point standing.

The Lady Giants came into the week with a 12-5 record and were looking to stay in the Top 5 of the power rankings.

On Monday, January 12, the Lady Giants would travel to Avoyelles Charter. The Lady Giants went through a shooting slump a couple of weeks ago but have seemed to of found their shot lately, starting in the Caldwell game. The Lady Giants would continue to shoot well from outside as they make 9 of 23 shot attempts from behind the three-point line. The Lady Giants led at halftime 28-14.

The Lady Giants score 23 points off turnovers in the game and would go on to win 57-30.

Triniti Williams would lead the Lady Giants with 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 steals. Halle Phillips would finish with 11 points in the game. Rylee Masters had a big game with 8 points and 5 rebounds. Sydney Williams also continues to play well as she finished with 7 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals.

On Thursday, January 15, the Lady Giants would travel to Pine Prairie in a big Division III Non-Select matchup. The Lady Giants came in ranked #5 in the division and Pine Prairie came in ranked #17. Both teams were looking to pick up a big win help their power ranking.

Pine Prairie would keep the game close in the 1st quarter as Jena would take an 11-9 lead into the 2nd quarter. The Lady Giants would use a big 2nd quarter outscoring Pine Prairie 25-13 to take a 36-22 lead into halftime. The Lady Giants would continue their dominance in the 2nd half as they would go on to win 73-41 to pick up a big road win.

Sydney Williams would lead the Lady Giants with 15 points. Lily Lacroix would have a big game for the Lady Giants as she would finish with 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals. Triniti Williams would add 13 points while Rylee Masters would finish with 9 points.

On Friday night, January 16, the Lady Giants would travel to Bolton for another district matchup. The Lady Giants would stay unbeaten in district play as they would defeat Bolton 57-6 in the blowout win that featured a running clock.

Ameera Jones had 12 points while Sydney Williams finished with 11 points. Jacquelyn Brooks had 10 points in the game.

The Lady Giants are now 15-5 on the season and 2-0 in district play. They are currently ranked #5 in the power rankings.

The next home game for the Lady Giants will be this Friday night against the Bunkie Panthers, another crucial district matchup. Tip off will be at 6:00 pm.
