Two More Wins for the Tigers

Two More Wins for the Tigers

The LaSalle Tigers had a busy week last week, playing three games in total on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and recording wins in two of the three to improve their overall record.

The Tigers started the week with a home game against Family Community Christian Warriors out of Winnsboro. The last time the two teams played the Tigers suffered a 12-point loss, but with more experience under their belt, this time was setting up to be different.

For this game, Senior Tuff Street ‘balled out’ by scoring 20 points, with the younger guys doing some great shooting as well. Sophomore Lane Burnham put up 17 points and Freshman Luke Lasiter put up 9 points. In a large turnaround from last time, the final score for this one ended up being 54-27 for the Tigers win.

The Tigers then turned around Thursday for another home game, this one against the Downsville Demons out of Union Parish. If you missed this game, you missed an absolute offensive gem from the Tigers.

In any athletic outing it’s important you come out hot and beat your opponent to the punch and the Tigers did exactly that starting out the first quarter 22-0! The scoring did not stop as the boys put up their second highest point total overall in a convincing 59-26 win. Burnham put up a very impressive 31 points and Street did a great job on the defensive side of the ball along with putting up 9 points as well.

Then to end the week, LaSalle traveled not too far to Dodson to face a familiar foe out of Winn Parish. Away games are always tougher, especially at smaller schools with a tight knit community such as the Panther’s, but the boys were ready for the challenge. The Tigers faced adversity throughout the game and gave themselves many opportunities to score inside the paint and from the free throw line.

Despite having one of their more off nights shooting, they were able to put themselves in a winning position down the stretch and got into a shot for shot faceoff with the Panthers. However, things did not bounce their way this time and they ended up with a 48-47 loss. Burnham put up 20, Street put up 12, and senior Madison Jeter put up 7 in the effort.

The boys will host the Panthers again later this season at home to avenge this game and will use that as motivation as the season progresses. This past week provided learning experiences for the team that they can use moving forward. In both the good and the bad there are valuable lessons that will be used to make the team better as a whole.

The Tiger’s will now face some tough competition from some local schools as they face the Georgetown Bulldogs (20-4) at home January 19 and the Calvin Cougars (8-11) at Calvin on Friday, January 23.

Both games are an easy drive to get to, and the kids and coaches would appreciate the support as they continue the quest to make this a great season. Please come out and support the LaSalle Tigers. Go Tigers!
