All of LaSalle Parish public schools will be closed tomorrow, January 27, as the effects of Winter Storm Fern continue to plague the parish.
According to LaSalle Parish School Superintendent Jon Garrett, the decision to close schools tomorrow was due to the continued power outages on the Northside of the parish, including LaSalle High School.
He also noted that extremely cold temperatures in the parish predicted for tonight and in the morning could cause dangerous travel for morning commutes.
Another factor for the decision to close was due to potential issues are various schools that have yet to be discovered, but may arise after temperatures allow thawing during the day tomorrow.
“Due to the lingering impacts of the winter storm in parts of our parish, including ongoing power outages, upcoming extreme overnight and morning temperatures and the potential for facility issues as conditions begin to thaw, all LaSalle Parish schools and offices will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27,” Garrett said. “We appreciate the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office and all emergency services for their continued work over the weekend and at this time, we anticipate reopening schools and offices on Wednesday, January 28. Thank you for your understanding.”
