Giants Pick Up Another District Win

The Jena Giants only played one game this past week due to the winter storm but that one game produced another district win for the team.

The Giants were scheduled to play Tioga at home on Tuesday, January 27, but the winter weather forced them to reschedule that game to February 11th and it will now be at Tioga.

On Friday, January 30, the Giants traveled to Vidalia for another District 2-3A matchup. The Giants have played well on the road in district and once again had another good road performance as they defeated Vidalia 53-29. They are now 3-0 on the road in district play.

Daniel Hatcher had a big game for the Giants scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Zadrien Cooper had 13 points. Zac Brown had 12 points and Xavier Brown finished with 9 points.

The win moves the Giants record to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in district play. These next two weeks for the Giants will be very important as they prepare for the playoffs and try to improve their power ranking. Right now, the Giants are just outside of the top 10 of the power rankings.

The next two Fridays the Giants will have some big home games that will give them some great opportunities to improve their power ranking.

This Friday night, February 6, the Buckeye Panthers come to town. Buckeye is ranked #10 in the Division II Select power rankings and has 16 wins on the season coming into this week.

Jena and Buckeye are tied in the district standings as both teams have only one loss in district play. So, this Friday night the gym should be packed with fans cheering on the Giants and supporting them.

The Giants will tipoff after the girls’ game around 7:30 p.m.
