Before schools were integrated in 1969, Trout Goodpine High School -also known as Trout Good Pine Rosenwald School -was the only all black school in LaSalle Parish. It was first established in 1910, along with four other educational facilities including Mars Hill School, Lime Branch School, Cooper School, and Rosefield School, by the LaSalle Parish School Board. Some of those schools eventually consolidated with TGHS. It originally served students from 1st through 12th grades, adding kindergarten in later years. Today’s remaining alumni recall the school with fondness and appreciation, noting the community atmosphere and quality education they received as students.
