Lady Tigers Defend Home Court

The Lady Tigers had a busy week this past week as they have had a trio of games, two district and one non district. With the end of the season fast approaching, they know if they want that coveted home playoff game nothing less than their best will do!

Coach Long has continued the winning tradition of Lady Tiger basketball and beaten a former state-champ already this season and had another recent state champion Northwood-Lena come to town last Tuesday, February 3.

The Lady Tigers brought their A-game from start to finish as they dominated both ends of the court each half against the Lady Gators. There is no aspect of the game that wasn’t executed at a high level whether it be blocked shots, steals, lay ups, transition offense, made 3’s or just plain wanting it, the Lady Tigers did it exceptionally. So much so the Lady Gators did not even hit double digits in this game. The final score was the Lady Tiger’s largest win margin of the year (40) winning the ballgame a resounding 48-8!

Next on the agenda was Dodson, a familiar foe and one the Lady Tiger’s had beaten twice already and looked to make it a three-peat. The last contest was very close as the Dodson girls took full advantage of their home court advantage and played one of their best games of the season. This past Thursday, February 5, was not a similar story however, as the Lady Tiger’s carried their momentum from their previous game and had repeat success on offense and defense. The girls put up another 40+ game performance and held Dodson to their lowest score total in their three contests this year winning it 47-16.

There was no rest for the weary however as the week’s finale ended against district rival St. Mary’s in Natchitoches on Friday, February 6. This was a good game from start to finish. The St. Mary’s girls had the size and height advantage in the paint, but the Lady Tiger’s defense kept the points in paint in check in the first half. What the ladies lacked in paint points they made up for by shooting from deep and efficient ball movement.

The score had gotten as close as a two-point deficit, but the momentum got away from the girls from a couple turnovers and a couple of missed opportunities down the stretch in the 4th quarter. This ultimately led to the game getting away from LaSalle and led to the road loss by the final score of 32-47.

The biggest test is yet to come for the girls as they face a very talented Logansport squad on the road February 10. (The two-and-a-half-hour drive is tough enough no matter how good the other team is).

The regular season will reach its conclusion back in Olla against the Montgomery Lady Tigers on Thursday, February 12. Please show your support for these girls as they are looking for a home playoff game and good seeding for the playoffs. Right now, they are ranked #16 in Div. IV Non-Select. Go Lady Tigers
