The LaSalle Lady Tigers closed out their regular season with two difficult district matchups this past week, but their body of work all season has already secured them a place in the postseason that begins this week.
On Tuesday, February 10, the Lady Tigers traveled to face district rival Logansport, where they ran into a hot-shooting home squad and fell 75–19. Despite the tough night offensively, LaSalle continued to compete and showed the defensive effort that has been a hallmark of their season.
Thursday night (February 12) brought the Lady Tigers back to their home floor in Olla, where they hosted another district rival, Montgomery. In contrast to Tuesday’s contest, this game turned into a defensive battle from start to finish. LaSalle stayed within striking distance throughout and had opportunities late, but Montgomery edged out a narrow 33–27 victory in one of the Lady Tigers’ most competitive games of the season.
Despite the two losses, the Lady Tigers’ season has been a clear success. With a 15–10 record, the team has represented its school and community with determination and pride while earning a spot in the state playoffs.
Currently sitting at No. 19 in the Division IV Non-Select state rankings, LaSalle now awaits final brackets to determine where they will travel for their first-round postseason matchup – mostly likely to be held Thursday night. (Check The Jena Times Facebook page for updated playoff information as the brackets were not released until after this newspaper’s Monday print deadline.)
Coach Todd Long, now in his 28th year on the sidelines, believes this team is prepared for the challenge ahead. Throughout the season, his leadership has helped the Lady Tigers overcome injuries, tough stretches, and demanding district competition. Long is no doubt proud of the resilience his players have shown and confident they will rise to the moment when playoff time arrives.
With postseason basketball on the horizon, the Lady Tigers now turn their focus toward preparation and opportunity. Regardless of the draw, one thing is certain — this team has already made its community proud, and their season still has the potential for more memorable moments ahead. Go Lady Tigers!
