The Great Troyville Mound of Catahoula Parish
Apart from historic markers located within a ten-mile radius, there’s little present-day evidence that 9 majestic earthen mounds once dominated the landscape near Jonesville in Catahoula Parish. Named the Troyville Mounds, these ancient earthworks have virtually disappeared, and along with them the stories and history of the people who inhabited, valued, and maintained them for hundreds of years. Built during the Woodland Native American period, the story of the earthworks is both mesmerizing and tragic.
