Mr. Howard Wheat’s old country store was the closest thing we had to a convenience store during my growing up years. It was about 5 minutes from our house, and it was our go-to place for snacks, milk, bread and gas. He was always sitting behind the counter offering friendly conversation to his customers whether old or young.
