Tigers Battle Through Tough Week
Coltin Little (10) throws to Wyatt King (6) to record another out during a recent game. The Tigers continue to play great baseball and even with some losses, they appear to be peaking at the right time for the playoffs.

Tigers Battle Through Tough Week

The LaSalle Tigers baseball team faced one of the toughest stretches of their young season this past week, taking on two high‑quality opponents in St. Mary’s and Stanley. While the results didn’t fall in their favor, the experience gained may prove invaluable as the season progresses.

The Tigers opened the week on the road against a seasoned St. Mary’s squad on Tuesday, March 17, ultimately falling 15–0. St. Mary’s showcased good pitching from the first pitch to the last, challenging LaSalle’s young lineup in ways they hadn’t yet seen this season. Though the loss stung, the Tigers walked away with something just as important – reps against very good competition that will sharpen them for the rest of district play.

Their next test came against another strong opponent in Stanley on Friday, March 20. LaSalle showed more rhythm and resilience in this matchup, but Stanley’s consistency at the plate and in the field carried them to a 10–2 victory. Despite the defeat, the Tigers continued to show their growth, especially in their defensive communication and plate discipline.

Even with the tough week, LaSalle remains firmly in the mix statewide, dropping only to #8 in Division IV Non-Select. For a team still developing its identity and leaning on young talent, staying inside the top ten is a testament to their potential. Now, the Tigers turn their attention to a pivotal stretch that could help them gain momentum as a team for the rest of the season. If there is one thing you can expect from a Coach Josh Boyett led team is that they will continue to work and make the adjustments necessary to compete at a high level.

LaSalle returns to action on Tuesday, March 24, in a crucial district showdown against Logansport. Rivalry games always bring out the best in both teams, and this matchup offers the Tigers a prime opportunity to reset the tone of their season. Later this week, on Friday, March 27, LaSalle hosts 2A Avoyelles, another strong opponent that will test the Tigers’ progress. A win here would not only boost confidence but also strengthen their statewide standing.

While the scoreboard didn’t favor LaSalle last week, the lessons learned could pay dividends down the road. Facing elite pitching, disciplined lineups, and experienced rosters is exactly the kind of challenge that helps a young team mature. If the Tigers continue to build on these experiences, they’ll be more than ready as district play heats up and they’ll have every chance to climb right back toward the top of the rankings.

Please keep showing up and supporting these young men as they continue their journey in their quest for Sulphur. Go Tigers!
