Giants’ great season comes to an end

With their win over Port Allen in the first round of the playoffs the #15 Jena Giants would move on to the 2nd round where they would take on the #2 Westlake Rams at Westlake last weekend.

These two teams met a couple of years ago in the second round with the Rams winning the series. The Giants would travel down south to Westlake on Thursday morning and would play Game 1 of the Best of 3 Series that night, April 23.

The veteran Westlake team would jump out to an early 8-0 lead after two innings. The Giants would battle but Westlake would go on to win 10-0 in 5 innings to take Game 1.

In that game, Jonas Jenkins and Bentley Feeheley would each have a hit for the Giants.

On Friday, April 24, the two teams would meet for Game 2. With their backs against the wall, needing a win to force a Game 3, the turned to freshman Bentley Feeheley, who pitched an excellent game and held Westlake to one run through the first 5 innings.

The Giants would tie the game at one in the bottom of the 2nd inning as Feeheley would come in to score on a sacrifice fly from fellow freshman Quinton Otwell.

In the 6th inning, Westlake would score 4 runs to put the game away as they would lead 5-1.

The Giants would pick up one more run on an RBI double by Quinton Otwell to make it 5-2, but Westlake would go on to win the game 5-2 and advance to the next round.

Feeheley would pitch 5 innings giving up 4 runs on 5 hits and finishing with 1 strikeout. Feeheley would also have a double and a run scored in the game.

Otwell would finish with a double and 2 RBIs in the game.

This young Giants team finishes the year with an 18-20 record. They have had a lot of growth and experience throughout the season that will pay off going forward in their careers.

The Giants will miss their senior Carson Willis who was the only senior on the team but will return a team with plenty of experience next season.

Congratulations Giants on a great season!
