Education and faith came together at Catahoula Correctional Center last week as 33 offenders were recognized for completing academic and faith-based programs aimed at rehabilitation and personal growth. During the July 7 ceremony, three men earned their HiSET diplomas, with two additional graduates acknowledged despite recent transfers. Another 28 offenders completed Malachi Dads and Faith & Character-Based programs, marking progress toward re-entry preparation and spiritual development. The ceremony opened with a prayer led by offender Kevin Richey, who encouraged graduates to carry their lessons forward and to serve as positive influences when they return to their communities. Richey asked God to guide the men as they step into leadership roles and strive to live out the values taught in the programs. Program Coordinator Lt. Wanda Phillips addressed the graduates urging them to recognize warning signs, be examples to others, practice selflove, think before reacting, manage life’s challenges, and remember that success is possible each day. Chaplain David Fryoux congratulated the men for completing their studies, noting that their achievements came through “trials and tribulations.” He encouraged them not to set aside their certificates once they leave the facility, but to apply the principles learned as part of their daily lives. Sheriff Toney Edwards commended the graduates for taking advantage of the opportunities available at CCC.
