Screams of excitement echoed through the LaSalle Parish library last week as some prehistoric visitors made a special appearance. Dino wranglers Martin and Dawn Wilmont entertained children while teaching them about dinosaurs through interactive and educational performance.
The program gave children the opportunity to learn about the fascinating creatures that once roamed the Earth. During one of Martin’s presentations, one of his dinosaur friends made a surprise appearance. A baby triceratops named Tater suddenly emerged from beneath a table, delighting and surprising everyone in attendance. Tater entertained the audience with playful antics, charging toward Martin and pretending to charge at the crowd, leaving the children laughing.
Next, two baby Tyrannosaurus Rex were introduced. The first, Rexi, kept the audience laughing as he playfully pranked Martin by biting him and causing all sorts of mischief. Then Suzie, the second baby T. Rex, made her entrance, giving children the chance to pet the friendly dinosaur. Excited children quickly formed a long line to meet their prehistoric friends.
The grand finale featured the show’s largest dinosaur, a Carnotaurus named Brutus. Riding atop Brutus was Martin, who invited the children to help direct the dinosaur by calling out commands and participating in the performance. The interactive experience quickly became a favorite moment of the program. Martin encouraged children to take home a book from the library and continue their love of reading during the performance too.
As the Summer Reading Program comes to an end, kids are encouraged to continue reading and learning as school begins.
