The Block Bears trailed big at halftime Thursday night, but they never stopped playing football.
Block fell 46-8 to Lincoln Prep at Panther Field, dropping the Bears to 0-2 on the season. But rather than fold as the deficit mounted, Block answered late in the third quarter with a touchdown of its own, avoiding the shutout and showing the kind of fight head coach SaMel Washington will look to build on heading into next week.
Lincoln Prep, which improved to 2-0 and has outscored its first two opponents 98-20 this season, showed the kind of performance that made the final score unsurprising. Running back Jakaylon Armstrong carried 23 times for 191 yards and two touchdowns, and quarterback Jabari Levingston was nearly perfect through the air, completing all five of his passes for 86 yards and two scores while adding two more touchdowns on the ground. The Panthers led 26-0 at halftime and had pushed the margin to 40-0 early in the third quarter before Block got on the board.
For Block, Thursday’s result is another chapter in a season the Bears are determined to turn around. They opened the year with a 22-16 home loss to Ringgold, a tight game that showed this team can hang with opponents when the margin is close, and are still searching for their first win since Nov. 8, 2024.
The third-quarter touchdown, scored while trailing by 40 points, was a small but real sign of the resolve this program is trying to build week by week.
That effort now shifts toward next week’s matchup. Block returns home to Jonesville to host the North Central Hurricanes on Friday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m., with a chance to take the lessons from a difficult two-game stretch and turn them into the Bears’ first win of the season in front of their home crowd.
