LaSalle’s showdown with the Glenbrook Apaches last Friday turned into a night of grit, frustration, explosive plays, and a late surge that showed exactly how much fight the Tigers still have in them.
Although the final score recorded a 43-22 loss, the never-quit character of this year’s team shined brightly as they kept fighting until the very end.
Both teams opened the game trading punts and stuffing fourth-down attempts. LaSalle’s run game flashed early promise, but the Tigers came up just short on their opening fourth-down try. Glenbrook answered with a drive of their own until an overthrown pass fell right into the hands of Luke Lasiter, giving LaSalle the first big turnover of the night. But the Apaches struck first on the scoreboard. A long touchdown pass followed by a successful two-point try made it 8–0 at the end of the first quarter.
Glenbrook opened the second quarter with a run-heavy drive, but when they tried to catch LaSalle off guard with a quick slant, Kasen Maxwell was waiting, snagging the Tigers’ second interception of the game. LaSalle couldn’t capitalize, punting the ball away. Glenbrook responded with another grinding drive, finishing with a QB sneak to extend the lead to 15–0.
After stopping LaSalle on another short-yardage attempt, the Apaches took a deep shot and connected again, stretching the margin to 22–0. The Tigers needed a spark and they found one. A crisp quick-game passing attack opened up the run, and Brayden Tannehill burst through for a 20-yard touchdown, then powered in the two-point conversion himself to make it 8–22.
Glenbrook answered before halftime with another swift march capped by a swing-pass touchdown, sending the teams into the break at 29–8.
LaSalle opened the second half with a jolt in the form of a safety, trimming the deficit to 2910. But momentum slipped away again when the Tigers threw an interception on the next drive.
Glenbrook capitalized with another passing touchdown, pushing the lead to 36–10. LaSalle refused to quit. Maxwell made a spectacular diving catch for a touchdown early in the fourth, cutting the lead to 36–16. Then came the Tigers’ biggest highlight of the night: senior Alex Richmond caught a pass, turned upfield, and raced 65 yards to the end zone, slicing the deficit to 36–22 and igniting the home crowd.
But that was as close as LaSalle would get. Glenbrook added one more score, sealing the game at 43–22.
Next week is massive for LaSalle — Homecoming and a visit from longtime district rival Montgomery, a team that would love nothing more than to spoil the celebration.
The Tigers have shown resilience through every challenge, and Friday night will be their chance to turn that fight into a statement win.
