The LaSalle Parish Police Jury has announced that beginning this Friday, September 10th, all remaining dumpsters will be removed from the dump sites in the parish.
“Once the sites are closed, garbage cannot be discarded at the dump sites as they will be closed to the public,” states Robert ‘June’ Fowler, Jury President.
Fowler noted that most of the sites are leased from RMS and once the sites are closed, the leases will be terminated and the Jury will do what it needs to do to close the site to the public.
When the Jury signed a contract with Waste Connections to begin door-to-door garbage pickup in the parish effective July 1, 2021, jurors decided to keep the dumpster sites open until residents got use to the new service.
At the time jurors said they would keep the sites open until the lease on their garbage truck comes up for renewal in September. With that date approaching, dump sites will be closed and the lease on the truck will not be renewed.
However, if LaSalle residents have excess garbage (more than will fit in the garbage containers), they may take it to the Waste Connections LaSalle Parish Transfer Station at 255 LaSalle Landfill Road, located just off LA 127 between Jena and Olla, and dispose of the waste at no charge to LaSalle residents, who provide proof of address.
Household trash, appliances, furniture, white goods, or small cut up limb debris (less than 3-ft. in length and less than 50-lbs. per piece) will be accepted at the Transfer Station.
The total weight of items being disposed of must be under 500-pounds total.
LaSalle Police Jury will be billed for any resident that uses the Transfer Station to dispose of these items and that provide proof of address. The cost of dumping these items will be covered by the Jury.
Items such as roofing materials, construction debris, commercial waste, dirt, concrete, limb debris over 3-ft. in length or over 50-lbs. per piece, will have to be paid for the dumper at the posted gate rate.
No commercial business will be allowed to charge under the Police jury account in the future.
All dump trucks, dump trailers, gooseneck trailers, or weight of trash over 500-lbs. will be paid for by the individual, and not by the Police Jury.
Tires, batteries, dead animals, offal waste, large items such as trees or electric poles, dirt, or hazardous waste will not be accepted at the LaSalle Transfer Station.
