Local artist’s work on display for Black History Month

A portrait of African-American singer Mahalia Jackson that was painted by local artist Ransom Rambo for his âVoices of Freedomâ series which also includes portraits of Bessie Smith, Maw Rainey, Billie Holiday, Ethyl Waters and Dinah Washington.

A series of African-American portraits by Grant Parish artist Ransom Rambo are currently featured in an exhibit celebrating Black History Month at the LaSalle Parish Library in Jena. The artwork is on display until February 25.
