Jena Giant junior scores 37 points at Marksville

The Jena Giants traveled to Marksville this past Tuesday as they took on the Marksville Tigers in another district contest. The Giants would come into the game still looking for their first district win while Marksville would look to stay in contention for the district championship. Marksville would outscore the Giants 19-12 in the first quarter as Zy Hunter had nine of the 12 Jena points in the quarter. In the second quarter, the Giants would outscore Marksville 12-11 as Marksville would take a 30-24 lead into halftime. Zy Hunter would lead all scorers at the half with 17 first half points. In the second half, Hunter would score 20 more points to finish with 37 points but Marksville would get hot from three as they would make eight three-point shots in the second half to go on to win 79-59. In the game for the Giants, Zy Hunter had 37 points, Adarian Richardson had seven points, Xavier Brown had six points, Amare Jackson had five points, Blayne Shivers had two points and Zadrien Cooper had two points.

    On Friday, the Giants would return home to take on the Bunkie Panthers. Bunkie would come into the game in a three-way tie for first place in the district standings with Bolton and Marksville while the Giants were still looking for their first district win. The Giants would play some stifling defense in the first half as they would lead 11-5 going into the second quarter and would take a 2219 lead into halftime. Adarian Richardson made two three-point shots and led the Giants with eight first half points. In the third quarter, Bunkie would get the offense going as they would outscore Jena 18-7 in the quarter to take a 37-29 lead into the final quarter.

    The Giants would struggle to score in the fourth quarter as Bunkie would go on to win 55-35. In the game for the Giants, Zy Hunter had 13 points, Adarian Richardson had 12 points, Xavier Brown had three points, Zac Brown had three points, Blayne Shivers had two points and Calex Campbell had two points. The Giants record is now 0-6 in district play and 2-18 overall.

    This week the Giants will be at Caldwell on Tuesday and will return home on Friday to take on the Bolton Bears. Everyone come on out and support these hardworking men.
