Olla-Standard Elementary second graders ended their unit study on westward expansion with a visit from Randy Hatten and a covered wagon. Hatten, who is second grade teacher Brooklyn Stamper’s grandfather, told students about the wagon and the pioneers who traveled west. The students explored the wagon, observed different tools and tried homemade pioneer biscuits made in a Dutch oven. For the event, students and teachers were allowed to dress like pioneers.
