Tigers Fall in Second Round

The LaSalle Tigers baseball season ended last Friday night in Olla with a 7-5 loss to the Welsh Greyhounds in the second-round of the LHSAA Div. IV Non-Select playoffs. LaSalle got off to a slow start against the Greyhounds and would eventually wake up enough to make it a great game. The Tigers started Brady Tatum on the mound and he was able to get through the first inning but ran into trouble in the second inning. Tatum was then relieved by senior Joshua Jones who threw until the sixth inning. During his six innings on the mound, Jones allowed just one hit, one walk and had six strikeouts. Jones was then relieved by senior Clay Clark who closed out the game with two strikeouts. Despite a 6-run deficit in the sixth inning, the LaSalle Tigers almost came all the way back before eventually falling 7-5 to Welsh. LaSalle scored four runs in the sixth inning, in part by Thorn Smith’s 3-run bomb. LaSalle just couldn’t keep up with Welsh early in the game as Welsh was able to score on a double by Cohen Cormier, an error in the first inning, a single by Casey Comier in the first inning and a single by Gabe Gillett in the second inning. Cohen Comier was the winning pitcher for Welsh, going five innings allowing three hits and three runs while striking out five Tigers. Tatum took the loss for LaSalle lasting one inning and allowing five hits and four runs while striking out one and walking one.
